Editor's Choice - Trials Fusion

Editor's Choice

GAME's Editor's choice: Trials Fusion on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

It's the game series that has filled living rooms with potty-mouthed outbursts and the remnants of a thousand trashed game controllers. And now the insanely fun/fiendish biker experience is back in Trials Fusion for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The premise is simple enough - guide your motorbike over increasingly challenging courses, 'balancing' your bike properly to clear obstacles and land safely after massive jumps, all before hitting the accelerator to cross the finishing line in record time. The execution on other hand is anything but simple - dastardly tracks that are designed to blindside you at every opportunity (and now with added branching courses), plus take-offs and obstacles that require inch-perfect manoeuvring.

Sounds miserable, right? Wrong - the Trials series is up there with the greatest when it comes to 'twitch' gaming; that insatiable urge to have Just One More Go... even if it is two in the morning and you've already deployed every anglo-saxon swear word in the Oxford English Dictionary a dozen times over.

And Fusion ups the series' ante even further, bringing a welcome slice of SSX-style showboating to the proceedings as you're charged with performing stunts and tricks while airborne, with the aim of landing them without splitting your brain pan open on a spiky piece of scenery.

Fuelling the experience further is an all-new futuristic setting, rideable quad bikes and a host of new bite-sized challenges. There's also local multiplayer and online leaderboards that will see you sizing up against fellow bikers and fighting for the best completion times and scores.

Better still, expect the Fusion experience to grow in the future - Red Lynx is already promising special tournaments and a new, improved online multiplayer experience in the months to come. And thanks to the improved Editor Mode, you and others can create your own hellish assault courses in the meantime. Expect custom-built tracks to amass in their hundreds of thousands over the coming months, making the game's replay value off the planet/ramp.

It all adds up to the most complete Trials experience to date then, and one that will eat into your social life. So engines (and several swear jars) at the ready, people, it's time to get airborne.
