GTA and Battlefield win big at European Game Awards

The winners of the 2014 European Game Award have been announced, and the results show that games development outside of the US and Japan has never been healthier, with many of the biggest games in the world being eligible.

Rockstar North, based in Dundee, took home three awards for Grand Theft Auto V, which won for Best European Game, Best European Action Game and the rather bizarrely named Best European Sound. Battlefield 4, developed by Swedish studio DICE, won Best European Multiplayer Game and Best Art Direction.

Also honoured was Sony's Beyond: Two Souls, from French studio Quantic Dream. That won Best European Adventure Game. Rome: Total War 2, from UK studio The Creative Assembly, was dubbed Best European Strategy Game.

Ubisoft, home of Rayman, Assassin's Creed and the upcoming Watch Dogs, won Best European Publisher. Hamburg-based Goodgame Studios won Best European Developer.

It's notable that the European Game Awards, now in their fourth year, are not judged by the industry, but are both nominated and decided by gamers using online voting.
