Marvel characters coming to Disney Infinity

Ever since Disney bought Marvel fans have been expecting its superhero characters to turn up in the family toy-based sandbox game, Disney Infinity. Now rumour has become fact, as a new video teaser confirms that Marvel characters will be added to the game.

The trailer shows Captain America's shield bouncing around various Infinity worlds, witnessed by the likes of Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story and Mike from Monsters Inc. “Bring on the superheroes” reads the caption, which must make The Incredibles feel pretty sad, given that they've been in the game since launch.

There's no word on when the new character toys will be released, or even if they'll be launching in the current version of Infinity. At the end of the teaser, a red flash in the top right corner of the screen reads “2.0 Edition” - whether this means an update to the existing game or is confirmation of a sequel due later this year remains to be seen.

Speculation will now turn to when Disney will also add its other big license acquisition – Star Wars – to Infinity. Doubters may like to know that in February it was discovered that anyone who collects all the currently available Infinity toys unlocks a green lightsaber for use by any character in the game. Shooting on a new Star Wars movie trilogy starts next month.

Disney Infinity is out now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U and PC.
