Warner Bros has revealed the release date for its upcoming Lord of the Rings game, Shadow of Mordor. The game will arrive on October 7th, the publisher confirms. That's the same day as sci-fi spook-em-up Alien Isolation.
Developer Monolith has also confirmed some pre-order bonuses for Shadow of Mordor. Reserve your copy ahead of launch and you'll get a Dark Ranger character skin and the "Test of Power" challenge mode. This allows you to battle Sauron's captains to earn rare and powerful runes that will give you a head start in the full game. There'll also be exclusive online leaderboards for the challenge mode.
Shadow of Mordor casts you as a cursed ranger, summoned back from the dead to get your revenge on the Orcs who killed you. Set in between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, you'll get to see Mordor as it was before Sauron's evil reduced it to a barren wasteland. Gameplay is in the style of Assassin's Creed and Batman: Arkham City, as you use your wraith-like powers to hunt down the enemy.
Those enemies will be smarter than usual as well, thanks to something called the Nemesis System. Named foes will remember encounters with you, changing their approach when you meet them again, and you'll also be able to work your way up the ranks by thinning out the lower ranked enemies before tackling the tougher officer class Orcs.
Lord of the Rings: Shadow of Mordor will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
