Microsoft promises 'gaming first' at E3

As the games industry gears up for its annual E3 trade show in Los Angeles, where the year's biggest titles will be announced and shown off, Microsoft has doubled down on its promise to focus its presentation on gaming rather than the Xbox One's lifestyle features.

Microsoft's Phil Spencer told Polygon that Xbox gamers can expect "the best lineup of content in a long time" and that now he's been promoted to the boss of the entire Xbox brand, the console will be concentrating on core gamers once again. "With me you're going to get a focus on gaming first and the best platform to play games on," he told the gaming site. "It's not a focus we ever lost but it's one I'll be accentuating at Microsoft. It's really going to be a gaming-led focus with Xbox and my new role allows us to execute on that."

Microsoft has already revealed that its E3 presentation will last 90 minutes and will feature "very few" company executives waffling about on stage.

As for the future of the Xbox, Spencer is in buoyant mood. "Console gaming is doing incredibly well right now," he said. "Six months ago, everybody wondered if console gaming was dead... but this is a long, multi-year generation and my fundamental belief is that great games create the best platforms."

E3 runs from June 10th to 12th in LA. Expect lots of big reveals.
