Watch Dogs delay led to extra gameplay content

When Ubisoft delayed the launch of Watch Dogs from late 2013 to this spring, it did so because the development team wasn't happy with some technical aspects and wanted additional time to polish the game. It turns out that these creative souls couldn't resist adding more content to the game during the process, however.

The additional missions and storylines came to light when VG247 noticed that the game's rating had changed in Australia. The game was submitted for a rating there in September last year, and was rated MA15+. The new polished version of the game was reclassified this month and is now R18+, suggesting that whatever new material has been added, it's made the game a considerably more adult affair.

Now Ubisoft has issued a statement to confirm that the game has grown during its polish period. "The entire development team has been working hard to polish and fine tune Watch Dogs in order to deliver a truly memorable open world game," the publisher says. "In parallel, the extra time also allowed the team to include a bit of additional content. As per Australian classification guidelines, Ubisoft resubmitted the updated version with the added content to the Australian Classification Board (ACB). The decision to amend the rating of the game from MA15+ to R18+ was made by the ACB."

This is in addition to the 60 minutes of bonus missions that will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.

Watch Dogs is out on May 27th for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC. A Wii U version will release later.
