SONY has announced a live-action film based on Naughty Dog's blockbuster PlayStation 3 exclusive The Last of Us.
Deadline reports the script is being written by The Last of Us creative director Neil Druckmann. Naughty Dog co-presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra and The Last of Us game director Bruce Straley are also working on the film as "creative architects".
Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is on board through his company Ghost House Pictures, and Screen Gems, which worked on the movie Carrie, will distribute the film.
Naughty Dog's Wells said Ghost House and Screen Gems were "a perfect fit" for The Last of Us movie.
"Since our game released last June, we've talked with many companies about making a film, but we couldn't have found better partners who share our creative vision and high standards," he said.
There's no word yet on who will play The Last of Us protagonists Ellie and Joel. Naughty Dog recently released the first story-based downloadable content for the game, called Left Behind. It's a prequel to the events of the main game and stars Ellie and her friend Riley. Naughty Dog has said there is a "50/50 chance" of The Last of Us 2.
