File this one under "how the heck with that work?" but Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson has confirmed on Twitter that hes been talking to Warner Bros about developing a Minecraft movie.
"Someone is trying leak the fact that were working with Warner Brothers on a potential Minecraft Movie," tweeted the Mojang boss. "I wanted to be the leak."
The deal has yet to signed, but Notch apparently felt that since word was about to slip out anyway, he wanted to make it official rather than just a rumour. ""Its for real," he tweeted in a follow-up post. "I think every part of that tweet was real, including me wanting to be the one to spill the news about a potential movie. It would be nice to tell people when its 100% solid rather than to leak it before its completely final, but our hands were a bit tied and rushed here."
According an article on movie industry website Deadline - presumably the leak Notch was worried about - the deal is already done and producers are on board, including Vertigo Entertainments Roy Lee who masterminded the similarly unlikely LEGO Movie to global blockbuster success.
Will we see Steve and the Ender Dragon on the big screen in the next few years? Watch this space.
