Shifting a staggering 250,000 units at launch, the PlayStation 4 can be added to the record books as the fastest selling console in the UK, ever. The record stays with SONY however: the previous record holder was the PSP, which sold 185,000 consoles when it went on sale back in 2005.
PlayStation's European boss, Jim Ryan, marked the launch day with a celebratory blog post. "After years of hard work from our brilliant hardware teams, the most powerful gaming console ever created is now in your hands and you can finally experience our vision for the next-generation of gaming," he said, adding "Our journey has only just begun."
"We find it absolutely heart-warming and humbling that gamers are returning to PlayStation and that the message we've been delivering all year has gone down really, really well," PlayStation's UK boss, Fergal Gara, told VG247. "They trust us, and they respect the work we've done to deliver such a great machine at such a great price, and bring it out in a timely manner."
PlayStation 4 is out now.
