TT Games and Warner Bros have confirmed that the next game in the long-running and ever-popular LEGO franchise will be The Hobbit. That's not much of a surprise given that LEGO Lord of the Rings is one of the best in the series so far. The most recent title, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, is also a treat.
The Hobbit game will arrive next Spring, and will cover the first two movies in Peter Jackson's trilogy, An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug. No doubt a second game will round out the saga.
Playable characters of course include Bilbo, Gandalf and Thorin, as well as all the other dwarves: Bilbo, Gandalf, and all of the Dwarves: Fíli, Kíli, Óin, Glóin, Dwalin, Balin Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Dori, Nori and Ori. Each will have their own unique ability. Bombur's fat belly can be used as a trampoline, for instance.
Locations include everywhere from Bag End, through the treacherous High Pass over The Misty Mountains, and down into Goblin-town, Mirkwood and Rivendell. LEGO Lord of the Rings featured an openworld Middle-earth, but there's no word if that will be the case in The Hobbit.
In terms of new gameplay features, you'll be able to undertake Treasure Quests, mine for gems as well as looting enemies and crafting items.
LEGO The Hobbit will be coming to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, 3DS, Mac and PC.
