Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Ghosts will launch with an all-new game mode in which players will fight against alien invaders.
Extinction is a co-operative game mode for up to four players, described as "a unique blend of fast-paced survival action, FPS base defense, scavenging and class leveling". You'll get to use all the gadgets and weapons you've come to know and love from the campaign and multiplayer against hordes of invading extra-terrestrials.
A trailer announcing the mode, released on Monday night, shows a quartet of male and female soldiers holding back bounding alien beasts with glowing eyes and mouths, as a drill attempts to plant a nuke in some kind of ET nest. Miniguns, airstrikes and drones are all called into action to stem the tide, until all four characters make a last minute dash for the evac chopper. It's breathless stuff.
Will Extinction capture the imagination of fans in the same way that Zombies did in Black Ops? We'll find out next week.
Call of Duty: Ghosts launches with an appropriate bang on November 5th, for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and PC, as well as for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 ahead of their respective consoles.
