Dead Rising 3: A hand-crafted world filled with infinite zombies

Dead Rising 3, Capcom's Xbox One zombie smasher, rewrites the book on openworld undead adventuring, the publisher has said. In an interview with CVG, producer Mike Jones has revealed how the game mixes carefully hand-crafted environments with randomly generated zombies to create a dynamic and realistic world.

"You're looking at more custom work and less reuse," Jones said of the game's buildings and locations. "We're not using the same textures over and over again, nor are we using the same geometry over and again. Every building and every interior in Dead Rising 3 is hand made and hand crafted. You'll never see the same building twice."

"It costs more money and more time," he admitted. "But ultimately it yields a more unique experience and you'll run through the world and know where stuff is without looking at the map because everything has its own feel."

The zombie hordes you'll hack, slash and blast your way through will also be unique, but in a different way. "You'll never see the same zombie twice," Jones promised. "It's all procedurally generated: hair styles, clothing, colours, textures. And the gore is too: missing jaws, missing eyes... it's all totally dynamic. That's a whole system that we built. We didn't just model the zombies, we had to model the pieces and the system puts them together."

Dead Rising 3 is an Xbox One exclusive launch title, and offers a seamless open world many times larger than the previous entries in the series. It's out on November 22nd, alongside the Xbox One itself.
