Dark Souls 2 sets the date for your demise

Put an ominous black mark on your 2014 calendar - terrifyingly hardcore role-playing sequel Dark Souls 2 has confirmed its release date. It's March 14th, when the game will release in Europe for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Developer From Software made the announcement at the Tokyo Game Show this week.

The PC version is expected to launch around the same time, but has yet to receive a specific date as the game is still being polished and optimised for that platform.

But what about the next generation consoles? They'll have been around for a good five months by that point. Will we see a souped-up version of Dark Souls 2 for those consoles? Quite possibly, according to the game's director, Yui Tanimura.

"Only existing consoles and PC are confirmed," he told Eurogamer. "I think it has to be decided for next generation consoles like Xbox One and PS4. My personal opinion as creator is that I'm really interested in next generation and I'm willing to make games for PS4 and Xbox One.”

As with the previous game, Dark Souls 2 will be published by Namco Bandai.
