In a move that may yet cause the universe to fold in on itself and blink out of existence, it has been announced that the next movie to get the LEGO video game treatment will be... The LEGO Movie.
The game, much like the film, follows a humble ordinary minifigure called Emmet who receives the call to become the Master Builder and save the entire LEGO world from an evil supervillain. You'll collect instruction booklet pages to unlock and construct increasingly complex playsets as you undertake fifteen story-based stages.
The LEGO Movie, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street), boasts an impressive voice cast including Liam Neeson, Will Ferrell and Morgan Freeman. It also features cameos from the likes of LEGO Batman and other DC superheroes. It's unclear if these actors and characters will also appear in the game.
As with all previous LEGO titles, the game is being developed for pretty much every format you can think of: PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, 3DS, PC, PS Vita and Wii U. It's particularly good news for anyone who missed out on the superb Wii U exclusive, LEGO City Undercover, as early screenshots suggest The LEGO Movie Videogame will offer a similar free-roaming LEGO City to explore.
The LEGO Movie Videogame is due in 2014, with TT Games once again developing. If you can't wait that long, the next entry in the beloved series will be LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, out this autumn.
