Beyond: Two Souls will make you think and feel

David Cage, the outspoken developer behind interactive drama hits such as Heavy Rain, has been talking once again about the need for games to move out of their comfort zone and start challenging players intellectually and emotionally.

"There are films or books that really changed me in one way or another," he said in a Kotaku interview. "But with games, it seems that most are just about having a good moment, having fun and that's it, and then you turn off your console and you forget about that. They can tell you something, like the best films or books, they can maybe change you, even a tiny bit; change who you are, what you think or how you see the world. Can they leave just an imprint in your mind so by the time you turn off your console you still think? They leave something in you? I wish that there were more games having the courage to talk about more subversive topics. Talking about politics, sexuality, human relationships".

Beyond: Two Souls aims to rectify that. Starring Hollywood actors Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe, both appearing in the game thanks to advanced performance capture techniques, the game follows a girl called Jodie over many years as she comes to terms with the strange, powerful, invisible entity that is joined to her.

Beyond: Two Souls comes exclusively to PlayStation 3 in October.
