Sometimes, teasers for our favourite games turn up in the strangest places. For example, tasty nuggets of info about Grand Theft Auto V, sure to be the biggest game of the year, have emerged not from E3 or Gamescom, but the rather bland sounding Cowen Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference in New York. It's there that Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar's publisher, Take Two, took the stage to talk up the next instalment.
"We think Grand Theft Auto V is going to redefine what an open-world game is and will be," he said. And why is that? Because no other game has had three lead characters telling one story, and let you switch between them whenever you want.
"This is going to be the first video game where you can shift seamlessly among three protagonists and if you think about it, one of the complicated factors in a video game has been the first person has to play all the emotional roles in the story; the good guy, the bad guy, the victim, the policeman, the cop, the hero," claimed Zelnick. "And, for the first time, you're going to be able to have three protagonists and that will actually drive the story forward."
He's also anticipating some record breaking sales, revealing that pre-orders for the long awaited game are going "very, very, very, very, very, very well." He expects GTA V to sell a staggering 18 million copies in its first year alone. GTA IV has sold 25 million since 2008.
GTA V is out on September 17th for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Preorders are open now, and you can choose between standard, special and collector's editions.
