Hideo Kojima teases Metal Gear Solid 5 gameplay trailer for E3

The next trailer for Metal Gear Solid 5, due to be released at E3 in June, will focus on actual gameplay footage, the game's creator Hideo Kojima has confirmed. The trailer sounds like it will also avoid the sort of epic CGI action scenes that most blockbuster games choose to market themselves with.

"Trailers these days has lots of explosion, crash, destruction, and fall," read a tweet from Kojima on his English lanuage Twitter feed. "I intentionally avoid those elements in my next trailer."

"Its time consuming since there's lots of game play scenes in the next trailer as it involves too much work besides editing but recording," he added. As with almost everything Kojima does, expect there to be all sorts of cheeky viral games and clues scattered around as the hype builds. "The trailer I'm working on, you can get to know the theme if you follow the title, text, lines, lyrics, and key art", tweeted the mercurial designer in typically cryptic style.

Metal Gear Solid 5 is actually two games, Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, which will form the official fifth entry in the Solid Snake saga when played together. They're both in development for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and will use Kojima's new FOX Engine to create a more free-roaming openworld take on the series classic stealth encounters.
