Killzone: Mercenary set for September launch

Dust off your gas mask and get ready for war - PlayStation Vita exclusive Killzone: Mercenary will be released on 18th September, according to SONY.

The game rewinds players back to shortly after the events of the original Killzone, released for the PlayStation 2 in 2004. As battle rages between the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance and the fascistic Helghast, you'll experience a new side to the conflict by playing as a mercenary - that'll explain the title then - who is only out for the cold hard cash.

That cash will be dished out across both a nine-mission single player campaign and eight-player online modes. You'll then be able to spend your ill-gotten gains to improve your character with new weapons and items. The game has been put together using the same engine as lush-looking PS3 sequel Killzone 3, making it one of the most spectacular PS Vita titles around.

Killzone has gone handheld before, in the 2006 PSP title Killzone: Liberation, but Mercenary marks the the first time a Killzone title has been developed by a studio other than Netherlands-based series creator Guerilla Games. Instead, the task has fallen to its UK sister studio, Guerilla Cambridge, which previously worked on the LittleBigPlanet Vita port.

Once again, Killzone: Mercenary will be out for PlayStation Vita on September 18th.
