Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel lines up March 2013 release date

The Devil's Cartel, the third game in EA's Army of Two co-operative shooter series, will launch on March 29th 2013, the publisher has confirmed.

The game is a reboot of sorts, with previous lead characters Salem and Rios replaced by the more anonymous duo of Alpha and Bravo. You'll once again be working for private military contractor Tactical Worldwide Operations, this time dropped into Mexico to help battle ruthless drug barons. More character customisation is planned, with everything from your mask to your guns being open to tinkering and tweaking.

The game will be the first in the series to ditch competitive multiplayer elements in order to focus on the co-operative campaign. "When we took a step back and looked at what we were trying to achieve, we just figured, 'you know what? Let's just put our resources into what we're trying to do, which is a very intense co-op campaign experience," lead designer Julien Lamoureux told VG247. "We didn't want to stretch our resources between competitive multiplayer and co-op. Whenever you start a project you have a finite amount of resources, so it's up to you what you want to put in place. For us it was just a logic choice, and we doubled down with the quality of the campaign, versus competitive."

Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel will launch on March 29th for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
