Nintendo has generously revealed that it intends to release all downloadable content for the upcoming 3DS game, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, will be absolutely free. The announcement came as part of a financial Q&A given by Nintendo's top man, Satoru Iwata.
"That sort of element is absolutely not being added," he said when asked about the prospect of charging for additional content for the game. In fact, he went further and said that introducing paid extras into the Animal Crossing series would be "unwholesome".
Animal Crossing has long been one of Nintendo's most beloved cult titles. In it, players move into a town filled with animal characters and can befriend them, doing jobs and helping out around the town in order to enhance and upgrade their character and house.
Nintendo clearly has plans well into the future for this 3DS iteration of the series - it has already announced special events and costumes for Halloween 2013.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf is out in Japan on November 8th and should make its way to Europe early next year. It'll be the first entry in the series since Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City launched on the Wii in 2008, but if you're feeling a little impatient, Animal Crossing will also be making an appearance in Nintendo Land for Wii U.
