Mario, Link and others cameo in Scribblenauts Unlimited on Wii U

The original Scribblenauts game for DS wowed many with its seemingly impossible gameplay concept: literally anything you typed in would appear in the game. Players spent hours trying to test the boundaries of this idea, coming up with increasingly obscure and bizarre solutions to the game's charming puzzles.

The one thing you couldn't conjure up was existing copyrighted characters. No matter how nicely you asked, Darth Vader and Batman wouldn't turn up in the game. With a sequel, Scribblenauts Unlimited, on its way, that's about to change.

No, Darth Vader and Batman won't be joining the fun, but a host of Nintendo characters will be putting in an appearance exclusively on the Wii U edition of the game. An image posted to the official Scribblenauts Facebook page shows Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Peach standing with Scribblenauts hero, Maxwell. On the other side, Link, Zelda, Epona and a Goron are also there.

This, it seems, is just the tip of the iceberg as we're promised that other familiar Nintendo faces, not to mention objects and items, will be included as bonus content.

Scribblenauts Unlimited is set for release on Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and PC later this year.
