Battleship details for Wii, 3DS and DS emerge

Activision has revealed the first details of the Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS versions of the forthcoming videogame adaptation of the movie Battleship.

While Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners will receive a story-driven shooter developed by Double Helix, Nintendo fans will instead be treated to a more strategy-oriented experience, inspired by the classic board game on which the film is based.

Taking control of their own naval fleets, players will be challenged to fend off an alien invasion by tactically deploying submarines, destroyers, patrol boats and other vessels in turn-based battles.

Developer Magic Pockets' version of Battleship will include a number of navy personnel characters to play as, each of whom has unique abilities that can turn the tide of conflicts.

A wide variety of unlockable content and customisation options are also promised.

All versions of Battleship will be released in April 2012 to coincide with the release of the blockbuster film starring Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, Rihanna and Liam Neeson.
