Aliens: Colonial Marines 'is a labour of love'

The developer behind the forthcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines has promised that the long-awaited game will have enough love lavished on it to make it worth the wait.

Randy Pitchford, chief executive officer of Gearbox Software, told the official PlayStation Blog that the new shooter is a "dream project" for the company, which is currently working to perfect the game ahead of its Autumn 2012 launch.

Based on James Cameron's iconic sci-fi action movie, Colonial Marines was first announced back in 2008 and will tell a new story that pits players against the xenomorphs, the deadliest creatures in the galaxy.

Pitchford said the game will be grittily realistic, with authentic down-the-sights aiming and equipment carrying limits, while players can expect to encounter never-before-seen alien variants.

He added that multiplayer will also be "a big deal", with previews of the online mode set to be released soon.

Aliens: Colonial Marines has been confirmed for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, while a version for Nintendo's new Wii U console is also likely.
