Turtle Beach PX3 Review

Turtle Beach PX3 Review

We were lucky enough to receive the Wireless Turtle Beach Px3 gaming headset to try, and wow. What a headset!

First impressions - What we thought

The Turtle Beach Px3 headset was designed for the PlayStation 3, but is also compatible with the Xbox 360 and Pc's. A relatively high-end gaming headset, our expectations were accordingly high.

When we had everything on the table we were surprised on two counts. Firstly the size of the transmitter, it's alot smaller than we expected which was a plesant surprise. The second was at how sleek the PX3 looks. It's made of a glossy black plastic, the Mic is fully adjustable and padded, fabric-covered head pieces. The headband is also fully adjustable, and is made of a combination of foam and fabric.

Setup - Setting up the PX3

We found setting up the PX3's relatively easy however, we do believe that it may not be a walk in the park for first time users. Fortunatly the included guide is informative, and there are how to videos on the Turtle Beach website.

The vast majority of the controls are on the headset itself, so you control the mic, chat levels and the volume level all from the headset. The sound profiles are also changed on the headset with 8 stored on your headset at any one time.

Charging the headset was also very simple. Connect the transmitter to your gaming console/PC, then connect the headset to the transmitter using the provided charging cable. We squeezed around 8 hours of use before it needed charging, which is a little less than the 10 that Turtle Beach say it is capable of, however we were chatting at the same time, so 10 hours with the Mic turned off is perfectly plausable.

Gaming - What we thought of it

We enjoyed a selection of games over Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and our Gaming PC. We did not notice a discernable drop in quality on any platform and chatting on all 3 formats again went without issue.

Quality - There were a few things we noticed that we really liked. Firstly we believe that of all the Stereo headsets we've used, these offer some finest quality sound we've heard. This will be, in part, to the powerful, 50mm drivers. However it can also be attributed to the way in which the PX3's allow so little sound to be wasted, with little noise being heard outside of the headset when it is being worn, and is great sign of good quality.

Wireless - Another feature that we really appreciated, and one of the best features it has over it's rivals, is the convenience of being a wireless headset. We haven't had a single problem with the Turtle Beach PX3's wireless functionality, no annoying clicks, or unsual snapping noises. We were able to walk all around the house and never dropped out.

Presets - The final feature that is worth mentioning are the audio presets. Presets are tuned for many different purposes, such as boosting the bass, enhancing footsteps or removing background noise, you can even download more from Turtle Beach. Playing the likes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim gave us a level of imersion that we hadn't experienced, with bullets flying past our ears and dragons roaring right in our ears, like we were there.

Summary

The Turtle Beach PX3 is a really decent quality high-end headset, packed with features and incredibly convenient wireless technology. We are really impressed with the Px3, and we strongly recommend it to any gamer who wants to get the most out of their video games.

If you're serious about gaming, then get serious about the sound. Step up to the PX3 and experience game audio like never before.
