Homefront sequel to be developed by Crysis creators

THQ has announced that the follow-up to its hit shooter Homefront is to be developed by the veteran action experts at Crytek.

The award-winning developer - which is responsible for games such as Crysis 2, Far Cry and the forthcoming Ryse - has signed up to deliver the as-yet unnamed Homefront sequel for consoles and PC in 2014.

Homefront was released in March 2011 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC and was developed by Kaos Studios, proving a chart-topping success on its debut week.

Working from an idea from filmmaker John Milius, the game is set in a dystopian near-future in which a ruined America has been occupied by the Koreans, while the world's economy falls to ruin.

THQ has expressed confidence that Crytek's knack for producing shooters with astounding visuals and robust gameplay will help take this concept to the next level.

Danny Bilson of THQ said: "We're supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand."
