Before we begin, a handy hint for anyone thinking of doing their own Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games multiplayer sesh: Sync your Wiimotes in advance! 10 minutes of chomping Papa John's and flipping open battery packs and we were finally ready to begin possibly the most couch potato Olympic playtime ever...

"Pizza, check. Pringles and pop, check. Controllers, check (finally!). 'Athlet... um... players, check. Characters picked. Let's go!"

Circuit Mode is the main multiplayer draw of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, so it made sense we'd play that. A Circuit contains three events for four players, so we picked the Beginners class and split into two groups – one playing the Mercury Circuit, the other the Venus Circuit, with the top two from each going to the Grand Final to play Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games' Jupiter Circuit, competing to be crowned overall GAME Online Olympic Champ!

To complicate things slightly, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games puts computer players into events as well – so we weren't just competing against each other. To counter this, we kept scoring casual, noting where our GAME 'athletes' finished in relation to each other for personal pride, but letting the game total up the scores and determine the winners and losers.
