History of Gran Turismo
1997 saw Sony's Polys Entertainment (later renamed Polyphony Digital) create Gran Turismo for the PlayStation and revolutionise racers forever. Boasting 11 tracks, over 150 cars, lifelike handling, stunning graphics, a cult licensed soundtrack and support for Sony's fledgling Dual Shock controller, Gran Turismo introduced full force-feedback analogue control and motor-modding simulation racing. Appealing to casual race fans and hardcore car nuts alike, Gran Turismo went on to become the PSone's biggest selling game ever.
Sequels soon followed on both PlayStation and PS2; each bigger and better looking, with more cars, tracks and features than the last. Widespread critical acclaim matched unparalleled sales, spawning a host of imitators. To this day, however, the GT series remains the race fans' favourite.
