Developed by Monolith Soft, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is coming to the Nintendo Switch! Take on the role as a new hero to seek out Elysium and go on an immense journey.

Tetsuya Takahasi, the executive director on the original Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles X, is also on board as executive director for Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Masatsugu Saito is handling the character design, and the music is being crafted by Chrono Trigger composer Yasunori Mitsuda, as well as ACE, Kenji Hiramatsu and Manami Kiyota.

Intro

In an endless white sea of clouds, there stands the World Tree. Around it lies Alrest, a land that many call home. Long ago, the people of this world lived atop the World Tree together with their creator, the Architect. The land they lived in was a true paradise, and its sweet rain and golden sunshine brought forth abundant harvests. The people called this land Elysium.

Story

The hero of this story is a young man named Rex. He makes a living working as a salvager, searching for precious resources and ancient artefacts in the Cloud Sea. He left the village where he was born and now lives on the back of a small Titan, Gramps. Hired to search a sunken ship and salvage anything of value, Rex chances upon a Blade by the name of Pyra – who happens to be a sacred Blade known as the Aegis. But then disaster strikes, and Rex is killed by Jin, the head of a shadowy organisation, Torna.


Pyra saves Rex’s life and becomes his Blade, their fates unescapably intertwined from that point on. He joins Pyra’s quest to reach Elysium, trying to survive in a world filled with rivals, all seeking the Aegis. Can our heroes make it to the promised land waiting above the World Tree?

Blades and Drivers

Drivers are certain individuals who have the power to bond with artificial lifeforms known as Blades. Blades aren’t just a Driver’s weapons, they’re also allies – their destinies are intertwined as they grow together.


Affinity When Drivers come into contact with the curious items known as Core Crystals, they can generate new Blades, with whom they will share a special Affinity. Each Blade is different in terms of abilities and appearance.


Enhancing Blades Drivers can improve their Blades’ abilities by building their relationships or with special items.

Battle

Drivers and their Blades march into battle together; Drivers take the offensive lead, while their Blades offer support by providing covering fire or restoring the Drivers health


A Driver can take up to three Blades with them into combat, and switch between them mid-battle. Each Blade has its own elemental powers, special moves and weapons, and they let their Driver trigger different Driver Arts too. Switch between Blades to gain the advantage, build combos and devastate enemies! There is a Blade for any occasion and can be switched depending on the tide of battle.


Choose from Attacker and take the fight to the enemy, Healer where the Blade can heal their Driver to turn the tide or a Tank, as the Blade becomes a Shield for their Driver and absorbs attacks.
