Xbox One and Xbox 360 games will have separate achievements

One of the burning questions of the next hardware generation has been answered: yes, you will be able to earn double Gamerscore by completing games on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Although Xbox 360 discs will not work in the Xbox One, you will of course be using the same Xbox LIVE account across both platforms, which means that playing the game twice will mean twice the achievements.

"Every game has its own set of achievements," Xbox One architect Marc Whitten revealed during a Q&A at IGN, "so if you're playing Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox 360 and on Xbox One, you can earn a separate set of Gamerscore in each game."

For the dedicated cheevo addict, it sounds like the Xbox One will be the version that keeps on giving, however, as the new console allows developers to be more flexible in the way achievements are awarded.

Whitten explained: "On the Xbox One version, you're getting a much richer set of features, such as seeing your achievements progress on the Xbox One console, being able to unlock new achievements throughout the year, and earning real prizes inside and outside of the game."

Xbox One is out later this year.
