The Last Story Product Details

Released on 24-Feb-2012

The Last Story on exclusively on Nintendo Wii is the latest action-packed RPG from Hironobu Sakaguchi with music by Nobuo Uematsu. The Last Story features time-honoured RPG gameplay and story elements but also adds modern twists to the traditional RPG formula. Customise your items and character and master the innovative combat system to succeed in this epic new RPG universe.

During The Last Story you take control of Zael and from time to time his partners, a band of mercenaries in search of their fortune. You undertake a series of missions and explore Lazulis Island and its sprawling medieval capital Lazulis City, while trying to help Zael achieve his ultimate goal of leaving his life as a mercenary behind and becoming a true knight.

The Last Story features a high level of customisation for both items and characters appearance. There are two main ways of customising your party’s equipment including visiting blacksmiths to increase their abilities and using dyes to change their colour. By visiting the various blacksmiths who are situated within Lazulis City and within some dungeons you can upgrade your weapons and armour.

Unlike many other RPGs, The Last Story not only features a thrilling single player campaign with an engaging story, but also Online Multiplayer options including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Co-Op modes. Now you can battle against or alongside up to five other RPG fans from across Europe using your own customised character from the Single Player game.

Master the innovative combat system, customise your character and gather items you discover throughout the game, and by utilising new features in The Last Story you will be able to take on the many enemies and bosses that can be found across Lazulis Island. Combat mixes traditional melee, ranged and magic attacks that are often found in RPGs with an innovative cover system and unique magical abilities. You will have to master a mysterious ability called The Gathering to help Zael and his band of mercenaries complete their missions and battle vast bosses by discovering their weak spots, picking a suitable strategy and using team work to bring them down.

  • The Last Story to receive limited edition release

Nintendo has revealed that the forthcoming Wii role-playing game The Last Story is to receive an exclusive limited edition release.

In addition to the standard version of the game, fans will be able to pick up a lavish collectable bundle that features a stunning steelbook package, an art booklet and a soundtrack sampler.

The seven-track CD will showcase some of the game's most memorable compositions, which are written by renowned videogame composer Nobuo Uematsu.

To be released exclusively on Wii in February 2012, The Last Story is the brainchild of Hironobu Sakaguchi, the legendary creator of the iconic Final Fantasy series.

Breaking from the standard role-playing formula, it features a real-time tactical combat system and online multiplayer modes, allowing players to do battle with others across Europe.

It is one of a number of acclaimed Japanese RPGs to hit Wii in the last few months, standing alongside last year's Xenoblade Chronicles and the upcoming Pandora's Tower.

  • In the latest instalment of Nintendo's 'Iwata Asks' series, Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi discussed the demands and distractions that the pursuit of high-definition graphics can place on game developers.

"Now that high-quality graphics rule supreme, you can reproduce what you want to communicate visually, but at the same time, I don't know how to put this, but there's an element that's slightly excessive about it all," he said.

"You end up communicating too much to the player."

"To be honest, I think that the HD images which have become mainstream in the TV industry are, for me personally, still rather over the top for the world of video games. There's a tendency for developers to allow all their energy to be diverted into maintaining the high quality of the graphics."

Sakaguchi has recently been hard at work on the upcoming Wii epic RPG The Last Story. During development, the focus on game design rather than raw fidelity allowed him to concentrate on the core design of the game.

"With this title, I pressed reset and returned to the basics of what a game is. I started by spending a lot of time considering just what it means to tell a story in a game," he explained.

"But it went beyond simply considering the story side of things I looked again at the fundamentals on the system side too."

Nintendo are still committed to catching up with the high-definition revolution when the Wii U launches at the end of this year. Let's hope they can continue to combine imaginative game design with the extra horsepower that the new console will afford development teams.

  • Nintendo is preparing fans for the imminent release of The Last Story, the new Wii role-playing title that makes its European debut later this month.

The publisher has launched a new website, trailers and developer interview series online to help build anticipation for the English-language release of the videogame epic.

Fans are being teased with videos of the game's stunning locations, innovative real-time combat system and six-player online battle mode, as well as new insights into the creation of a title that has already proven an acclaimed hit in its native Japan.

Created by famed designer Hironobu Sakaguchi, the man behind the iconic Final Fantasy series, The Last Story follows the adventures of a man named Zael who is striving to become a knight, leading him on a huge adventure.

It will be released in a special edition that includes an art booklet and a soundtrack CD, featuring compositions by veteran Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu.

The Last Story's release will appeal to the same role-playing enthusiasts who helped to make Final Fantasy XIII-2 a chart-topping success this week.

  • Nintendo has announced an April 2012 release for Pandora's Tower, the latest epic role-playing title to be developed exclusively for Wii.

This unique title follows a soldier named Aeron who must battle through dungeons and fortresses to save his beloved friend Elena from a curse that is gradually transforming her into a monster.

Featuring real-time combat, motion controls, multiple endings and a soundtrack filled with iconic classical compositions, Pandora's Tower promises to offer a distinctive take on the traditional role-playing formula.

At the core of the experience is the unique relationship system that sees the story and outcome change depending on how much they interact and bond with the cursed Elena.

Players will need to give items to the girl and return to her regularly to help stem the tide of the mutation, knowing that a wrong tactical move or unnecessary delay could doom her forever.

The Wii has seen the release of a series of acclaimed fantasy epics in recent months, with Xenoblade Chronicles and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword set to be joined by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi's The Last Story this month.

    Published: 15/02/2012

  • Legendary RPG developer Hironobu Sakaguchi has bemoaned the visual quality of the Nintendo Wii and how it held back his vision for the critically-acclaimed title The Last Story.

Talking to IGN, Sakaguchi explained how the limitations of Nintendo's best-selling console affected the game.

"It's unfortunate, but the final issue that always seemed to deny certain ideas was the SD resolution limitation," he said.

"I would be pleased if people would view our efforts to their best by switching their cables to advanced connection cables or by playing it in the best environment possible."

As well as creating The Last Story, Sakaguchi is most famous for creating the epic Final Fantasy franchise. The release of the Wii successor later on this year should ensure that future projects achieve a visual fidelity that's commonplace on other consoles. Expect to hear much much more about the Wii-U when Nintendo take to the stage at E3 next week.
