Sega has revealed that its ambitious new Wii shooter Conduit 2 will be launching in Europe in March 2011.
The futuristic action title from High Voltage Software is shaping up to be one of the most robust FPS experiences on Nintendo's console, featuring a diverse array of solo and online multiplayer modes and options.
Conduit 2's single-player mode will take players to the ends of the earth as they look to prevent an alien invasion, with graphics and control customisation options set to be among the Wii's best.
Meanwhile, by using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, gamers will be able to engage in fully-featured deathmatches for up to 12 players across large multi-tiered levels, with voice chat options set to be provided.
It will also include a four-player cooperative mode that can be enjoyed both on and offline.
Sega's Gary Knight promised: "Conduit 2 will set a new bar for online multiplayer games on the Wii with great new gameplay modes and improved security."Published: 19/01/2011

Variety is the spice of life
Wii first person shooter sequel The Conduit 2 picks up straight after the events of 2009's original, in which players saved the world from an alien force know as The Drudge. Resuming the role of Agent Michael Ford you have to save mankind's bacon from an alien invasion once more, only this time you're battling against two rival Earth-bound extraterrestrial factions, with humans caught in the crossfire.
Address to impress
While The Conduit received praise from critics for delivering on some of developer High Voltage's promises, such as a highly customisable control system, it was equally criticised for corridor filled level design and repetitive enemy types. The graphics were pretty good, especially for a Wii title and we found the shooting enjoyable, but it was hard to call it the Wii's answer to, say, Halo or GoldenEye.
Cinematic battles with giant adversaries including a snake-like sea monster have been confirmed, as well as new canine robot foes.
High Voltage appears to have taken the criticisms on board and is looking to address them head on in The Conduit 2. The studio has said that environments will be more varied – from snowy Siberia to the underwater city of Atlantis - and open, with multi-tiered levels allowing you to take multiple paths. Meanwhile, enemy types will be more diverse - cinematic battles with giant adversaries including a snake-like sea monster have been confirmed, as well as new canine robot foes.
Key to improving the core shooter gameplay will be a diverse and powerful arsenal, which will include 28 new weapons. One, the vortex cannon, enables you to trap bullets in a force field before reflecting them back at their shooter, while a phase rifle can penetrate walls. You'll also be able to set booby-traps for enemies using a deployable turret.
The All-Seeing Eye
Elsewhere, the All Seeing Eye – a well implemented device used for puzzle solving in the first game – is to be enhanced with new functions, such as the ability to scan environments and download information. The Conduit 2 will also support Wii MotionPlus for more precise controls, and again offer a detailed and customisable control system, allowing you to configure look sensitivity and turning speed, among other options. You'll need to make the most of these abilities, though, because the enemy artificial intelligence is going to be smarter this time round.
Special co-op game types like Team Invasion Mode will allow up to four friends to battle waves of aliens side-by-side.
The Conduit 2 will be playable in single player, online multiplayer battles, and all-new off and online co-op modes. While you won't be able to play the solo campaign with others, special co-op game types like Team Invasion Mode will allow up to four friends to battle waves of aliens side-by-side in split screen multiplayer or from separate locations online.
The title's also set to boast "a new and more expansive 12-player online competitive multiplayer mode with larger and more intricate indoor and outdoor battlefields", featuring new game modes and maps, and greater character customisation options. It will also support Wii Speak, enabling chat functionality between friends during online shootouts.
Blast away!
If High Voltage can build on the original's solid technological foundations and customisable controls by delivering greater gameplay variety and a more robust online multiplayer experience, then we expect to spend many long nights blasting aliens with our friends come the title's release later this year.
