Fans of fisty-kicky fighting games should already be quivering in anticipation for Street Fighter X Tekken, which pits the warriors from Capcom and Namco's rival franchises against each other for the first time.
To whet those whistles further, Capcom has just announced that it'll be taking the whole bruising affair on the road so fans can sample the game before its official release in March 2012. The tour gets off to a lavish start on August 20th at the KO Gym in Bethnal Green, London.
Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono will be there, signing things and pretending not to be freaked out by people dressed as Chun Li, and there will also be grub and music to add to the party atmosphere. Capcom has also hinted that while the event is to promote Street Figher X Tekken, there may be ther secret thingsgoing on. The event kicks off (literally) at 7.30pm and you should get there early, as there are free gifts for the first fifty people at the door.
The game will then head off to Bristol, Edinburgh, Norwich, Brighton and Liverpool. Dates and venues for the rest of the tour have yet to be confirmed in the next few weeks.
In the mean time, get in some practice on either the superlative Super Street Fighter IV or the equally impressive Tekken 6.

Street Fighter X Tekken coming in March 2012
Capcom has announced that its eagerly awaited crossover fighting game Street Fighter X Tekken will be hitting stores in March 2012.
Producer Yoshinori Ono confirmed the news at New York Comic Con alongside a host of new gameplay details for the game, which brings together the stars of the Street Fighter and Tekken franchises for a battle royale.
In addition to the already-confirmed Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions, Mr Ono revealed that a PC conversion is also in the works, with more details to be revealed soon.
The game will introduce a new gameplay feature called Gems, collectable upgrades that can be gathered during play for use in customising character abilities and statistics.
Capcom also confirmed that burly Street Fighter IV combatant Rufus will be joining the all-star character roster, which already includes the likes of Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Guile from Street Fighter, as well as Tekken's Kazuya, Nina, Kuma and Yoshimitsu.

If it's good enough for Jordan, it's good enough for Ryu. Capcom has revealed that its upcoming fighting game crossover, Street Fighter x Tekken, will be preceded by an online reality show in which two teams of players, each representing either Street Fighter or Tekken, will take part in an intensive week-long tournament.
Two teams of five will take part in the show, called Cross Assault, with "two legendary players from the fighting game scene" taking the role of leader. Everything from practice sessions to player interviews will be streamed live online, with a $25,000 prize awaiting the eventual winner.
In other Street Fighter x Tekken news, producer Yoshinori Ono has confirmed that the Xbox 360 version of the game narrowly missed out on having Master Chief and Gear of War's Marcus Fenix as playable characters. "We were in discussions with [Microsoft] for which character to put in as an exclusive," he told Xbox 360 Achievements.org, "But we weren't able to decide on a character because of differences in timing and things like that." The PlayStation 3 version features Cole from inFamous and Japanese PlayStation mascots Kuro and Toro.
Street Fighter x Tekken is lined up for a March 9th release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Capcom has revealed that two very special guest characters will be featured exclusively in the PlayStation editions of the forthcoming crossover fighting game Street Fighter X Tekken.
When the title hits stores this year, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita owners will be able to leap into battle as Capcom legend Mega Man and Namco Bandai's iconic hero Pac-Man.
In an unusual twist, Mega Man will be depicted in his burly and muscular form from the infamous cover art of the very first Mega Man game, while Pac-Man will ride atop Mokujin, the wooden warrior from the Tekken series.
Pac-Man and Mega Man will join a growing roster of PlayStation-exclusive characters for Street Fighter X Tekken, with inFAMOUS star Cole McGrath and Sony mascot cats Toro and Kuro also set to be included.
The game arrives first on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in March 2012, with PS Vita and PC versions to follow later.
It represents the first meeting between the Street Fighter and Tekken universes, with confirmed characters including Ryu, Chun-Li, Guile, Nina and Yoshimitsu.

Games. Girls. Historically they've not really been words you put together, at least not in a positive way. Time was girls barely played games, and when it came to female characters in games, they were rarely more than damsels in distress.
But things are changing. Games have evolved. Female characters are stronger, bolder, more prominent and, most importantly, playable.
This is our run-down of some of the best and brightest girls in gaming today. The women who solve problems, kick @$$ and actually matter.
Lara Croft
Lara seems the obvious place to start really, the first real female lead in a game - not simply the character you played, but the character the game was centred upon. And she was the first to really achieve widespread media attention.
Tomb RaiderLara Croft and Tomb Raider took a male-dominated genre and character type and did a gender switch. Strong, feisty, independent and intelligent, Lara was everything a stereotypical female character wasn't. That said, there was always one thing (well, two things) that garnered Lara the most attention.
Since 1996's original Tomb Raider, Lara has appeared in eight sequels to date, with a ninth due this year. Again simply titled Tomb Raider, we go back to the start of the story and find out what made her the woman she is.
Tough, smart and sexy, there's no doubt that Lara Croft is still the benchmark.
Jill Valentine
Resident Evil: RevelationsThe Resident Evil series has seen many female characters, from the cunning Ada Wong to the tough Sheva Alomar. But Jill Valentine is the one that stands out.
Debuting in the original Resident Evil and continuing throughout the series, Jill proved herself to be more than a match for those virus-ridden zombie types. Jill was designed to complement partner Chris Redfield by having different strengths and skills, thus showing that she wasn't just a female 'version' but an independent character and a genuine alternative to the male lead.
A promotion to sole protagonist for Resident Evil 3 showed she was capable of carrying a game on her own. Although she would return to shared billing in later games, including this year's Revelations, her continued appearances throughout the series is testament to the strength and staying power of the character.
Chun-Li
Street Fighter X TekkenWhere would this list be without Chun-Li? The archetypal beat 'em up girl showed she could certainly handle the male fighters and spawned a thousand* imitators.
Introduced in Street Fighter II, Chun-Li is one of the few characters to have appeared in almost every Street Fighter game (and crossover game) since. She has a fighting style, a character and a story that is completely her own. She's as tough as they come, but at the same time, her avenging-her-father's-death motivation showed a humanity that sets her apart from the crowd.
With a look as iconic as any you are likely to find in gaming, Chun Li has been taking on - and taking out - all comers for 20 years and shows no sign of stopping. Which is just fine - would you try to stop her?
*not actually a thousand. This is a dramatic exaggeration!
Lightning and Serah
Final Fantasy XIII-2The Final Fantasy series is well known for blurring gender roles, with androgynous boys and tomboyish girls. Appearances aside, it has had some strong female characters, exemplified by the Farron sisters, Lightning and Serah.
Lightning was the protagonist of FF XIII, a soldier whose gruff confidence hides a more sensitive, vulnerable edge. At once both strong and feminine, she may be one of the most mature and emotionally rounded characters in the FF franchise. Serah takes the lead in FFXIII-2, and is almost a mirror image of Lightning - seemingly vulnerable on the outside, but tough and determined, and willing to do what needs to be done.
Lightning and Serah go beyond two-dimensional 'types' and prove we can have strong female characters that don't have to play up - or play down - their femininity.
SPECIAL MENTION: Samus Aran
Metroid SeriesYes, she doesn't have a game out at the moment, but this list would be remiss without a mention of Samus Aran.
Ten years before Lara put on her exploring shorts, Samus was the surprise lead in Metroid. Surprise in that it was only as you completed the game that she took her helmet off and you discovered she was, well, a she under all that armour.
One could argue that hiding her true identity is doing her gender a disservice. But by removing gender from the equation, Samus was the first character that showed gamers that women could do blowing stuff up in space just as good as men, something she would continue to do in 11 more Metroid games (as well as turning up in a handful of others). And, after all this time she still keeps the armour on.
SPECIAL MENTION: Chell
Portal and Portal 2While Samus was someone I couldn't not mention, Chell is a bit more of a question mark for this list. After all, the star of Portal and its sequel is silent and largely off-screen, due to the first-person nature of the game. Plus she was only female because it was thought this best suited the scenario of Portal, rather than any desire to make a female character.
But it's that "what works best" thinking that makes her an important figure in the history of female characters - she's not there to make a point. And that is a point worth making.
So what does the future hold?
In 2012 we'll be seeing the Buffy-esque cheerleader vs zombie fun of Lollipop Chainsaw, point-and-click piracy with Captain Morgane and the Golden Turtle, and the largely-female cast of Akai Kitana Shin making their way to UK consoles. The Dead or Alive franchise returns with Dead or Alive 5 which looks to have toned down the exaggerated sexuality of the female fighters. There continue to be rumours of sequels to Bayonetta and Heavy Rain. And some day - maybe this year, maybe next - Beyond Good and Evil 2 will finally come out and Jade will get another chance to show the world what she can do.
Female protagonists are increasingly giving their male counterparts a run for their money. But who's your favourite? Who do you play as, and who would you add to this list? Why not leave us your comments below.

Capcom has nailed down a PC release date for its new crossover fighting game Street Fighter X Tekken, as well as adding a few new names to the list of confirmed characters.
The all-star beat-em-up will arrive on home computers in May 2012, two months after it makes its debut on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Street Fighter X Tekken will be the first game to bring the cast of Capcom's Street Fighter games into conflict with characters from Namco's Tekken series, with gameplay based on the 2D fighting engine of Street Fighter IV.
The final characters added to the game's roster are the villainous Street Fighter duo of M Bison and Akuma, as well as Ogre and Jin Kazama from Tekken, completing a line-up that includes more than 40 characters.
A handful of fighters have been confirmed as exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions of the game - Sony mascot cats Kuro and Toro, Namco and Capcom legends Pac-Man and Mega Man, and Cole McGrath from the inFAMOUS series.

One of Capcom's oldest franchises will be colliding with one of its newest in a special Street Fighter-themed downloadable content pack for the upcoming action game Asura's Wrath.
The publisher has revealed details of post-launch DLC for the new Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 adventure that sees the eponymous rage-filled deity Asura taking on famous Street Fighter characters in battle, including karate master Ryu.
It will be the third batch of DLC released for the new game, with two earlier packs set to add extra story content set between the episodes of the main plot, while introducing dramatic new visual styles inspired by the world of anime.
Asura's Wrath is due out next month and has been developed in collaboration with CyberConnect2, the team behind the Naruto franchise and the acclaimed Nintendo DS game Solatorobo: Red the Hunter.
The game offers a unique cinematic experience, blending visceral action and gargantuan bosses with a new storytelling approach.
As players experience the tale of a banished god's quest for vengeance, they will be able to direct the action even during cutscenes, affecting the main gameplay sequences in different ways.

A slew of additional characters have been announced for the PlayStation Vita version of the eagerly awaited crossover fighting game Street Fighter X Tekken.
The all-star beat-em-up - which hits PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next month - won't be arriving on PS Vita until later this year, but Capcom will be throwing in 12 extra fighters to compensate.
Flying the flag for the Street Fighter series will be Blanka, Cody, Dudley, Elena, Guy and Sakura, while representing team Tekken are Alisa Bosconovitch, Bryan Fury, Christie Monteiro, Jack, Lars Alexandersson and Lei Wulong.
These come in addition to the existing line-up of more than 40 characters from the home console versions and PC edition, which launches in May.
Five guest fighters have already been confirmed as exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita releases: Pac-Man, Mega Man, Cole McGrath, Kuro and Toro.
Capcom has also promised that plenty of post-launch downloadable content will be served up for Street Fighter X Tekken in the months to come.

Capcom's crossover brawler, Street Fighter X Tekken, will be getting a rather fun collector's edition when it launches in the UK on March 9th.
Those lucky enough to get their mitts on the limited bundle will not only get a copy of the game, but a prequel comic from UDON Comics, an art book, forty five gem power-ups with which to level up your fighters and - best of all - a reproduction arcade cabinet money box. Because why not?
As the title cunningly suggests, the game pits the stars of Capcom's evergreen Street Fighter series against their rivals from Namco's Tekken games. Expect the structure of Street Fighter IV smashing fists with the team play of Tekken Tag Tournament. New features include Switch Cancel, Cross Assault and Pandora, which supercharges your untagged character when you're seconds away from defeat.
Both Capcom and Namco are on a roll at the moment, with the excellent Marvel vs Capcom 3 and SoulCalibur V punching up a storm in recent memory. Street Fighter X Tekken hits for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 9th.

Capcom's crossover arcade brawler Street Fighter X Tekken will receive a limited edition release in Europe, the publisher has confirmed.
The Street Fighter X Tekken Special Edition is available to preorder now for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and includes a copy of the game itself, plus a selection of in-game goodies and collectable items.
Pro players will gain an advantage from the inclusion of 45 Gem Power-Ups, which can be used to customise the packed roster of Street Fighter and Tekken stars with improved abilities.
Also thrown in are a prequel comic and concept art book from Udon Comics, as well as a unique money box shaped like a Street Fighter X Tekken arcade cabinet.
The new game hits stores in March 2012 and represents the first meeting between the cast of Capcom's Street Fighter and Namco Bandai's rival Tekken series.
A PC edition will be released in May, while a PS Vita version is also in the works, offering a dozen extra characters.

Collision course
As the name suggests, Street Fighter X Tekken is an exciting mash-up of two of the greatest fighting worlds in gaming history, in which Capcom's Street Fighter and Namco Bandai's Tekken clash in a no-punches-pulled Battle Royale.
The game occupies a comfortable middle ground between the slower paced, one-on-one fights of Street Fighter IV and the fast and frantic three versus three battles of Marvel Vs Capcom 3. It lets players pick two characters and pair them up as tag team buddies from an all-star roster of fan favourites including Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, M.Bison and Akuma from Street Fighter, and Jin, Kazuya, Nina, Kuma and many more from Tekken.
Street Fighter X Tekken also welcomes fans of both franchises by finding a happy medium between their very different fighting styles. Although Capcom fighters can use fireballs and control the action from a distance, the Tekken characters have a number of tools to help them get around these tactics and pile on the pressure up close.
Kick boxer
The key to success can often be found in successfully juggling characters, which is the act of striking an airborne opponent in such a way that they are sent flying again before performing a series of combos that keep them constantly airborne, allowing the attacker to inflict maximum damage.
A series of special attacks and mechanics can also be used to extend combos and boost damage output. To make things less complicated, many of the motions required to pull off these moves have been simplified. For example, a single quarter circle-forward motion with the analogue stick and either two or three simultaneous button inputs now starts a cinematic special move, replacing the trickier two quarter circle motions traditionally required to do so.
Flashy players can also use Cross Assault, which calls two characters onto the screen at once, and the Pandora Mode, where players can relinquish their partner in order to gain a temporary surge in power.
Bling
The most notable addition is the Gem system, which introduces a RPG-like customisation system to the fighting mix. A limited amount of Gems are available during matches and are used to obtain various additional effects, such as covering character weaknesses or supporting the user's play style. Assist Gems can be used to bolster a player's ability by letting the game take care of actions such as breaking throws or blocking, while Boost gems provide health, speed and power bonuses.
Gems are a drastic change to the way fighting games have previously been played. For casual players they represent an opportunity to stay competitive and have fun, while introducing a new type of meta-game for experienced players that has the potential to make battles more tactical. If it wasn't already, Street Fighter X Tekken should definitely be on your radar.

Videogame icon Pac-Man is set to star in his own TV show in 2013, thanks to a new deal between Namco Bandai, Arad Productions and 41 Entertainment.
Pac-Man: The Adventure Begins is set to premiere on Disney XD in the US next autumn and will be an action comedy series starring the rotund yellow hero and a group of new friends.
Animated in stereoscopic 3D, the show is being produced by Hollywood supremo Avi Arad - known for his work on the Spider-Man and Iron Man movies - as well as Rick Ungar, of X-Men: Evolution and Biker Mice from Mars fame.
Arad said: "Pac-Man is one of the world's greatest icons. He is funny and adventurous and will bring his tone and abilities to this beautifully executed animated series."
The Power Pill-guzzling hero has appeared in animation once before, with a Hanna-Barbera-produced Pac-Man show airing briefly during the 1980s.
However, he has remained a regular gaming fixture for years in titles such as Pac-Man Party and Pac-Man World 3, while he will also be making a guest appearance in the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita editions of Street Fighter X Tekken.

Journey, the stunning ambient explore-em-up from designer Jenova Chen, swept the board at the annual DICE Awards. Voted for by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, the awards are the closest thing the games industry has to the Oscars, although the ceremony inevitably involves less dance numbers.
Already a favourite with critics and a top selling game on SONY's PlayStation Network, Journey took home eight awards, including the big three: Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction and Outstanding Innovation in Gaming.
No other game came close to Journey's haul, but several games came away with multiple awards. The brutally brilliant XCOM: Enemy Unknown took home prizes for best strategy/simulation game as well as Outstanding Achievement in Gameplay Engineering. Microsoft's Halo 4 also took home two gongs, for Outstanding Achievement in Visual Engineering and Outstanding Achievement in Connectivity.
Topping off a 2012 that was stuffed with superb titles across all genres, the exuberant Borderlands 2 was crowned Action Game of the Year, while Need for Speed: Most Wanted took the prize for best racing game and Mass Effect 3 was dubbed best role-playing game. Skylanders Giants beat Lego Batman 2 and Nintendo Land for Family Game of the Year, while PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale provided an upset in the fighting game category, as SONY's character crossover mash-up beat such genre mainstays as Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Street Fighter X Tekken.
Telltale Games' gruelling episodic adventure series The Walking Dead, based on the hit comic, also won big. It was awarded Adventure Game of the Year, and also took home honours for story and voice acting.
