Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of South Park, took to the stage during Microsoft's E3 press conference to shed more light on the upcoming Stick of Truth spin-off game, developed by veteran role-playing studio, Obsidian.
The game is a Lord of the Rings spoof, with the player taking the role of a new kid in town, forced to team up with Stan, Cartman and the gang to save South Park from marauding goblins, vampires and hippies. Parker and Stone have worked closely with Obsidian on the game, supplying the script and voicing the characters.
Perhaps the most hilarious revelation from their irreverent presentation was the news that the Xbox 360 version of the game will use Kinect voice control, allowing you to interact with the characters. You'll be able to taunt enemies and launch attacks with your voice, but more importantly you can call Cartman names and he'll respond in kind.
South Park: The Stick of Truth is due on March 5th 2013, for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Internet detectives got busy today when the homepage for legendary RPG developer Obsidian was replaced with an image of an ouroboros - that's a dragon in a circle eating his own tail - along with the number four and a cryptic message: "What do the words mean? Nothing. The Dirge of Eir Glanfath is sound without form, a lone voice crying out in mourning because it must."
Those canny souls who poked around in the page's HTML source code found another clue: "X . X X . X X To tenderness, fellowship. To fellowship, vigilance. So bring we all to the Night Market. I am the Spindle of Esenath. Know me by my light and stand with me in darkness."
Clicking on the logo took visitors to a forum on the Obsidian message boards dedicated to something called "Project X". Obsidian developed Dungeon Siege 3 last year, while Dungeon Siege publisher Square Enix has confirmed it is working with a western developer on a new game, leading fans to speculate that this is a tease for a return to the kingdom of Ehb.
It might be a while before Project X, whatever it may be, sees the light of day. Obsidian is currently hard at work on the South Park RPG, The Stick of Truth, for THQ. That's due for release in March 2013.

THQ today moved closer to nailing down the final release dates for three of its biggest upcoming titles.
Metro: Last Light, the awesome looking follow-up to post-apocalyptic Eastern Bloc horror-shooter Metro 2033, and wartime strategy sequel Company of Heroes 2, will be released in March 2013, company president Jason Rubin confirmed today.
Metro: Last Light is once again developed by Ukrainian studio 4A Games, made up of staff who worked on the cult PC hit S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Company of Heroes comes from the revered strategy studio Relic Entertainment, best known for Homeworld and Warhammer 40k.
THQ's long awaited South Park game, The Stick of Truth, will follow in Q2 2013. It's being developed by Fallout: New Vegas studio Obsidian Entertainment."We have been working closely with the co-creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, to make sure all of the game's content performs to the high standards of the TV show, and this takes time," said Rubin. "THQ is committed to giving gamers no less than the rich South Park game they have been waiting for and deserve."
THQ's recent hits include the openworld adventure Darksiders II and the fantastic wrestling sim WWE '13.

According to a report published on Eurogamer this morning, acclaimed development studio Obsidian isn't just wrapping up its South Park RPG and Project Eternity games there's a separate team hard at work on a next-gen game, and it's already looking pretty good if the developers say so themselves.
"We can't really talk about what we are working on," said Obsidian's Feargus Urquhart, "but it is already looking great." See, we told you.
"As for the number of people at the studio, it's safe to say we are around 100. As for the split of people, we do have around 15 people working on Project Eternity, and that will go up by a few in the [coming] months."
"As for the other projects, it's a bit more complicated to explain exactly how many people we have on one project versus another."
Urquhart gave his response following press frenzy whipped up by a pair of job postings that included phrases such as "unique next-generation game" and "unannounced next-gen console title".
Despite the lack of specific detail, the same job listings also hinted at the game being set in an RPG environment with action elements. We'll take another Knights of the Old Republic if that's OK with Obsidian.
