  • Hope you remembered to bake a cake: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega ever-young platforming mascot, hits his 20th birthday this week.

Two decades of Sonic! And it only seems like yesterday that we first saw him speeding through rings, racing off the edge of the screen, and trouncing Dr Robotnik back on the Sega Megadrive.

Since then, Sonic been a fixture of almost every games console going and it can be too long before we see him turning up on the 3DS, The PlayStation Vita, and the Wii U.

Created by Yuji Naka back in the early 1990s, Sonic was Sega attempt to rival Nintendo Super Mario, and while the plumber remains a classic in his own right, Sonic hasn done too badly for himself, giving platform fans everywhere a taste for fast-paced action and colourful levels.

Sega hero shows no signs of slowing down either no pun intended. Later this year, Sonic Generations will be hitting the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, and Nintendo 3DS. It promises to blend elements from Sonic 2D origins with his later 3D adventures, and the word on the street is that it one of the best Sonic games Sega has seen in years. Here to the next 20, Sonic!

Classic Sonic! Finally
This was the first game I ever remember playing on the Sega Megadrive. I mean you can't improve on perfection in games and once you get used to the controls that is exactly what you get with this one. The music comes back to you, and that is it. Can spend hours on these games and I simply love it.

Sonic Classic Collection
This game is simply amazing for any sonic lovers. In this collection we have sonic 1,2,3 knuckles, and Knuckles in sonic 2 & 3 .. all games play very well although there can be very slightly lag during gameplay . However this makes almost no difference at all . There is no multiplayer at all in this game which is a shame. But it offers a save anytime feature which only loads from the start of the current level you are on. There are some extras like pictures and artwork. nothing to get excited about really. For £20 you can't go wrong with this collection buy it now. The delivery was awesome came next working day for free. This game gets 9/10

Sonic Classic Collection
This newest Sonic Collection is great for the DS. 4 games of the original Sonic Trilogy are here along with 2 of the Sonic & Knuckles Lock On Games making a total of 6 legendary games. The Collection itself is bare bones with only the 6 games and about 28 pictures of Classic Sonic Artwork. No extras like Videos, history of Sonic, comics, unlockable games or any of that here. But having 6 near perfect ports of these classic titles in 1 DS game makes up for it. Sonic fans of new and old should pick this up for sure.

Sonic Classic Collection
This is a great compilation of the original Sonic games from the Sega Genesis, which include Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 2 With Knuckles, and Sonic 3 With Knuckles It's fast paced fun that anyone can enjoy, and it takes me back to when I was younger. Something to be known, this is a DSi Enhanced game. This means that it's region locked if you are going to play it on a 3DS or DSi/DSiXL (I found out the hard way by trying to play it on my US 3DS [the game doesn't even register], luckily it still will play on any region DS or DSLite)

The game seems really good that you get four for the price of one. But the down falls are -A few of the sound effects seemed to have suffered in quality, and in a couple places they overlap and sound rather strange. -There are a few frame rate issues, particularly in the Metropolis Zone of Sonic 2. However, the Genesis games had some slow down too, so it could be from that rather than from the port.-There are also a few graphical glitches, most of them minor, such as a small section of pixels briefly changing colors when the screen scrolls up or down really fast. The worst thing I've seen so far is in the special stages of Sonic 3/Sonic and Knuckles, where the tiles on the floor will sometimes scroll in a jerky fashion- To pause, you have to tap a button on the touch screen. Start doesn't seem to do anything. This isn't so much a flaw, but it is a bit annoying when you want to pause and forget that start doesn't work anymore. other than that its brilliant. its okay
