Civ IV gets Grammy nod
There's no shortage of videogame award shows - the aptly named, um, Video Game Awards are going to be held this December, in fact - but it's always nice to see games making an impact in the wider media. Guess what: Civilization IV's been nominated for a... Grammy?
The prestigious music awards are the record industry's version of the Oscars, and the brilliant PC strategy game got a nod due to the track Baba Yetu, which plays over the game's opening.
Baba Yetu was written by the composer Christopher Tin, and it features the Soweto Gospel Choir. According to Eurogamer, it's been short-listed for the "Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists" category. Fingers crossed.
The Grammys will be held on 13th February, so Tin's probably going to have a few sleepless nights in the month ahead. Gamers, meanwhile, can put their time to use by playing Civilization V, the latest instalment in the hit PC strategy series, which sees you conquering the world by trading, innovating, or blowing people to pieces. It's crazily addictive stuff, and the new game comes with improved battle mechanics and a hex-based movement system. Sadly, there are no Grammy categories for that kind of thing.
