Serious Sam HD: 1st & 2nd Encounters Product Details

Released on 25-Mar-2011

Serious Sam HD First & Second Encounter is a first person shooter with attitude. The series follows the adventures of Sam "Serious" Stone and his fight against the forces of the notorious extraterrestrial overlord Mental who seeks to destroy humanity. Serious Sam offers traditional style first person shooting but with a new take on this familiar formula. Closed-in corridors are mostly replaced with wide-open environments, small groups of enemies are replaced by dozens attacking at any given time. Combat makes up most of the game, with Sam's only help being NETRICSA (NE uro-TR onically I mplanted C ombat S ituation A nalyser), an advanced computer AI surgically implanted into his skull. NETRICSA serves as an in-game strategy guide, cataloging encountered enemies and weapons, and at the same time providing bits about the background story and hints on how to progress. Ammunition and weapons are plentiful, and guns, for the most part, do not need to be reloaded. Enemy designs often take inspiration from mythology and fantasy, and include anything from flying harpies, to giant bipedal cybernetic monsters, to headless suicide-bombers. In addition to single player, Serious Sam also features cooperative gameplay via online, network and split screen play. The HD remakes of the original games feature vastly improved textures and character models, new co-op game modes and more lush environments
  • If last week's blockbuster Bulletstorm has made you pine for more of the simpler, more arcade days of first-person shooters, back when things were straightforward and plots were largely about alien invasions, you'll be glad to hear that Serious Sam 3 is going to be touching down on the PC and "game consoles" this summer. That's according to the publisher, Devolver Digital. (Thanks, Eurogamer.)

A prequel to the first two games, Serious Sam 3 is apparently, a "glorious throwback to the golden age of first-person shooters where men were men, cover was for amateurs and pulling the trigger made things go boom".

Set during Earth's fight against an invading army, Eurogamer has suggested the game will include collapsing temples, venerable civilisations, and sprawling Egyptian cities. Oh, and enemies, of course. "It's just you and them. All of them", said the developer Croteam.

In terms of features, you can look forward to melee moves, a 16-player campaign and plenty of versus modes. "Serious Sam 3 is about pure fun and unfiltered action," said Croteam's Davor Hunski. "We wanted to expand on everything gamers love about the series while adding some genuinely unique new features to really enhance the mayhem Serious Sam is known for."Sounds like that's exactly what the doctor ordered.
