• Ubisoft's Rocksmith headed for UK festivals

  Still on the fence about Ubisoft's ambitious music game Rocksmith, which uses real guitars and claims to teach genuine musical skills? If you're heading to a music festival this year, you'll get the chance to try it for yourself and see if the promises hold up.

  The double-decker Rocksmith bus will be touring Europe's biggest outdoor music events all summer, offering the chance to get hands on with the game. If you think your fingers are up to the job, there'll be multiplayer challenges with guitars to be won. Acts such as Eric Clapton, Blur, The White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age and The Rolling Stones have all supplied tracks for the game.

  First up is a stop at the Isle of Wight festival on the weekend of 22nd to 24th of June. It'll then head off through France, Italy and Germany before returning to our shores for Reading Festival (24th - 26th August) and Bestival (6th - 9th September).

  Rocksmith was launched last year in America, where it's been warmly received by musicians and gamers alike. It's European launch was held up by a lawsuit from a UK band called Rocksmith, who claimed the game infringed their copyright.

  Rocksmith will be placing its foot on the monitors and shredding some mean riffs in the UK on October 12th for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
  

• Rocksmith to make UK debut in September 2012

  Ubisoft's innovative music game Rocksmith is set to make its long-awaited UK debut in September 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

  The groundbreaking title sets itself apart from previous music games by allowing players to plug in actual electric guitars to use as controllers, with the game offering a crash course in real guitar-playing skills.

  Featuring tracks from the likes of Blur, David Bowie, the Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Muse and many more artists besides, Rocksmith has a flexible difficulty curve and teaches users how to play guitar in a fun and engaging way.

  The game can be purchased on its own or in a special bundle that includes a fully-functioning Epiphone Les Paul Junior guitar, created by iconic instrument manufacturer Gibson.

  Henry Juszkiewicz, chairman and chief executive officer of Gibson, said: "Rocksmith provides a new and exciting opportunity for fans of all musical abilities to pursue their dreams - and actually learn how to play."

  The game has been available in the US since October 2011 and has proven a critically acclaimed success, with the UK version set to contain bonus content not seen in the American release.

• Now Rocksmith wants to teach you to play bass as well

  Rocksmith, Ubisoft's upcoming entry in the music game genre, has already attracted attention for its bold and clever decision to use actual real guitars as controllers. The idea is that unlike Rock Band and Guitar Hero, by playing Rocksmith you'll learn to play for real.

  Now Ubisoft has announced that the game will receive an update that enables it to work with bass guitars as well. If you don't have a bass, it'll allow you to practice on a normal six-string guitar, played as a bass. Special bassline tracks have been added to all 53 songs in the game, as well as all the songs available to download separately, and there'll be new tutorial videos to get you started.

  Rocksmith has been out in the US since last year, but is only reaching UK shores now following a legal challenge from a British band which shares the game's name.

  Rocksmith goes on sale from September 14th, for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The team at GAME have already been giving it a bash.
