Ratchet & Clank return to PlayStation 3 with Into The Nexus

Popular PlayStation heroes Ratchet & Clank are coming back to SONY's console in an all-new classic platform adventure, Insomniac Games has announced. Following the co-op mayhem of All 4 One and the multiplayer tower defence of Q-Force, Ratchet & Clank: Into The Nexus will be a traditional single player action adventure that acts as an epilogue to the Future trilogy of Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty and A Crack in Time.

"We love single-player Ratchet adventures," Insomniac's community lead, James Stevenson, says in a post on SONY's PlayStation blog. "We've continued to generate new ideas for weapons, gadgets, and planets. It feels like the time is right to revisit Ratchet's personal story arc."

The game will have a gravity theme, with some sections taking place in zero-g environments. Gravity will also play a role in some of the new weapons and gadgets. Into The Nexus is being overseen by Brian Allgeier, creative director of Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time, and is described as "a story-driven platform adventure, with the humour and heart that make the franchise so beloved."

If you want to catch up with Ratchet & Clank, the original PlayStation 2 trilogy got the HD compilation treatment last summer. More recently, Insomniac took a break from Ratchet and Clank - and from PlayStation exclusivity - to develop the hardcore co-op shooter Fuse for Electronic Arts.

Ratchet & Clank: Into The Nexus will be out for PlayStation 3 later this year.
