Powered by Insomniac Games’ fourth-generation PS3 technology, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time continues to bring the experience of playing a CG-animated movie to PS3. An original adventure wrapped around a heartfelt storyline and the franchise’s signature humor, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time is sure to delight fans of all ages. STORYLINE After discovering that Clank’s disappearance was engineered by Dr. Nefarious, Ratchet races to rescue his best friend. Unfortunately, he discovers that Clank’s capture is just the beginning of Nefarious’s latest diabolical plot.

  • The series’ renowned arsenal gets even larger with new weapons including the Cryo-Bomb Glove, Plasma Striker and Sonic Eruptor, along with classics such as the Negotiator and Buzz Blades.
  • Insomniac goes multiplatform

This is a bit of a shocker. Renowned PlayStation 3 developer Insomniac Games has announced it's going multiplatform with its next project.

Famous for its work creating Sony exclusives like the brilliant Ratchet & Clank platformers and the Resistance FPSs, set in an alternate 1950s in which Earth is fighting off an alien menace, the company has already started work on its new multiplatform game that will be hitting the Xbox 360 as well as the PS3.

The only news at the moment is that the game will be set in "a brand new universe" with no connection to its earlier franchises. It's being published by EA, but as it's still in its early stages, we won't be seeing anything at E3 in early June. Boo!

Insomniac Games' founder Ted Price told Eurogamer that he's excited about working with the Xbox, and that the online platform Xbox Live is a great opportunity. "Xbox Live is impressive in its breadth and its popularity with users. That's a very cool opportunity for us to start taking advantage of."

He added that fans of Resistance and Ratchet have nothing to worry about. "We're still as committed as ever to the franchises we're working on with Sony," said Price.

  • Apparently determined to prove Nintendo doesn have the monopoly on family-friendly multiplayer platformers, Insomniac has unveiled brand new footage of its forthcoming spin-off Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, which sees the spacefaring duo team up with cowardly Captain Qwark and arch-nemesis Dr. Nefarious to escape a strange and dangerous new world.

The game new trailer shows the foursome engaging in the kind of running, jumping and shooting for which the series has become known, but there plenty of new ideas on show. It seems the foursome will have to combine forces to solve puzzles and defeat some gargantuan bosses, but theyl also need to use each other to get from place to place. One such sequence shows one character latching onto another to swing from a platform. The trailer shows plenty of the seriestrademark humour, which suggests the jokes haven been lost in the transition from a single-player game to one with a greater focus on co-operative play.

Currently in development at Insomniac new Carolina studio, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One is set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 3 later this year. It currently pencilled in for a allrelease, but wel bring you more concrete information on its launch closer to the due date.

  • Most movies based on video games have taken their inspiration from high-kicking fighting games or grisly horror franchises like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, but now it looks like someone has finally worked out that there are some games that would be perfect as CG animated family flicks.

Case in point: Ratchet & Clank, which will be coming to cinemas in 2015 according to an announcement from creator Insomniac Games. The movie is in production now at Rainmaker Studios, which released the similarly sci-fi themed family animation Escape from Planet Earth earlier this year.

Unlike other video game movies, this one actually sounds like it stands a good chance of staying true to the games we love. Insomniac's lead writer, TJ Fixman, is penning the script while voice actors James A. Taylor, David Kaye and Jim Ward will all return to play Ratchet, Clank and Qwark.

The Ratchet & Clank games have been among the most popular PlayStation exclusives ever since they launched in 2002. You can pick up the first three titles in the Ratchet & Clank Trilogy collection, while more recent entries in the series include four-player co-op game Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One and the platformer tower defence hybrid Ratchet & Clank: QForce.

The comedy duo join the likes of Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and Need For Speed, all of which are the subject of major blockbuster movies due in the next few years.
