  • The loveable animal heroes of the Madagascar franchise will be returning to consoles this October in Madagascar 3: The Video Game from D3Publisher.

Based on the forthcoming movie sequel Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, the new title will be available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS.

Playing as Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippo and Melman the giraffe, fans will travel across Europe as part of a touring circus, performing in spectacular shows while carrying out zany missions for the militaristic Penguins.

The game will feature modes for multiple players and will include all of the most popular characters from the films, from old favourites like King Julien to new faces like Stefano the sea lion and Vitaly the Siberian tiger.

Chris Hewish, global interactive head for DreamWorks Animation, said: "This videogame brings to life the film's Madagascar-style circus fun in a truly exciting and memorable gameplay experience that will thrill kids and families alike."

The cast of Madagascar have appeared in numerous games over the years, including last year's The Penguins of Madagascar: Dr Blowhole Returns (Again!).

  • D3Publisher has struck a deal with DreamWorks Animation to bring the new movie tie-in Madagascar 3: The Video Game to consoles this June.

The game has been pencilled in for release alongside the new movie Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted and will see Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo returning for an adventure across Europe.

Gamers will be able to relive the story of the new film, which sees the animals escaping the clutches of a crazy animal control officer as they seek to return to their New York home.

D3Publisher will also be teaming up with DreamWorks to create games based on its next blockbuster films, with Rise of the Guardians coming this Christmas and The Croods scheduled for next year.

Bill Anker, vice president of business development and licensing at D3Publisher, said: "We look forward to working closely with the DreamWorks Animation team to deliver an authentic and compelling gameplay experience that will take the adventures in exciting new directions."

DreamWorks' most recent movie Puss in Boots also received an action-packed videogame spinoff, which was released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and Nintendo DS in December.
