Overstrike, the new multi-console action game from Resistance studio Insomniac Games, was notable by its absence at E3 this month, but fans eager for a glimpse of the hotly anticipated game needn't worry. The game will get a public showing this summer.
"It's a new IP and we want to make it the right game, so they're taking some extra time to nail the gameplay and the quality," EA's Frank Gibeau told CVG. The super-publisher has signed on to distribute the game, which will be the first multi-platform effort from the previously Sony-exclusive developer. "It felt like we would stand out better later in the summer once we've hit some key milestones and we're able to show off more."
The game follows the exploits of a hi-tech infiltration team, Overstrike 9, as they penetrate enemy installations using an array of "exotic weaponry". Given the bizarre and awesome arsenals that Insomniac created for Ratchet & Clank and Resistance, it seems safe to say the toys in this game will be very cool. The game will also offer four-player co-op.
Overstrike is in development for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and will be released in 2013.

Fuse, the four-player co-op shooter from Resistance and Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac Games, will have a survival mode. That's not much of a surprise, as most shooters offer something similar, such as Horde Mode in Gears of War. However, Insomiac has a reputation for tweaking cliches, and it seems that Echelon, Fuse's survival mode, will offer a twist on this familiar formula.
"It's wave based in that you do fight waves of enemies but we switch out the rules on you all the time," Insomniac boss Ted Price has told Official Xbox Magazine UK. "It's more of an offensive game mode than most other wave-based game modes in that some of the sub modes, most of the sub modes, in this game mode are offensive, you are actually going after certain things versus just trying to defend yourself."
There will be six survival modes in all, such as High Value Target. In this mode, a mini-boss joins the arena and the longer he survives, the more enemies he spawns. Critical Drop has rare weapons fall into the arena, and if the enemy reaches them first they'll destroy them. Other modes will see you taking on gigantic boss monsters or defending a fuse core from attack. At all times, you'll be working alongside your fellow players but also competing against them to earn the most Fuse Points and Fuse Credits which can be used to unlock better gear.
Fuse, formerly known as Overstrike, is Insomniac's first multi-platform game after years of being PlayStation exclusive. It'll be published by EA in March 2013 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Insomniac Games, the developer best known for the SONY-exclusive Ratchet & Clank and Resistance games, has set a date for the launch of its first multi-platform release, Fuse. The co-operative four player shooter will hit UK shops on May 31st.
You - and up to three friends - will control a quartet of elite agents, tasked with defending the Earth from an alien menace. So far, so unoriginal, but Insomniac's passion for inventive weaponry should make all the difference. Every team member has their own "xenotech" weapon which uses alien elements to create outrageous and explosive effects.
Rugged commando Dalton Brooks has a gun that can fire shields onto the battlefield. Thief Izzy Sinclair has a cloaking device and a singularity gun that shoots miniature black holes. Jacob Kimble packs a liquid mercury super-heated sniper rifle while Naya Deveraux carries a "shattergun" that freezes enemies solid. The fun comes in co-op when you start combining these different effects: freezing, crushing and melting your way through the levels. Every weapon also gains new powers and abilities as you level up.
You won't have to worry about missing out on the fun if you play solo either, as the LEAP system will allow single players to hop from one character to another during play.
Fuse is due for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 31st.

Insomniac, the studio behind such hits as Ratchet & Clank and Resistance, has added a new FAQ to its website for upcoming co-op shooter, Fuse.
The four-player game will be playable online, obviously, but there won't be any season pass or other single-use code to restrict online play. Nor will the game have any microtransactions where you can spend real money to boost your way through the game, despite publisher Electronic Arts being rather keen on such things.
"Online pass?" reads one question. "Nope," is Insomniac's reply. "But, you should still buy it new to support us because there are no microtransactions to make up for it, though."
The FAQ also reveals that while the game is designed to be played with four people, you'll be able to enjoy it solo, as well as in split-screen with a friend. Split-screen and online can also be combined, so you and a buddy on the sofa can team up with friends online.
The game is a tactical third-person shooter with weapons powered by unique alien "Fuse" technology. This means, for example, you'll be able to freeze or melt enemies, and even combine powers for heightened effect.
Fuse is out for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 31st.
