Metal Gear Solid 3DS

Solid Snake is smashing through the screen and into your room – with Snakes first foray into the realm of 3D and his first mission ever on a 3D Nintendo handheld. This is one experience everyone has been waiting for and one that promises to flex the muscle behind Nintendo’s small yet powerful handheld.

Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D is set in the 60’s and has ‘Naked Snake’ fighting for survival in the harsh jungle environment whilst he tries to uncover a mysterious plot filled with twists and turns.

Nintendo 3DS has brought the development team at Konami some more tricks to fill MGS3D with such as the ability to take photos and use them as camouflage on snake immediately. Also the 3DS gyroscopes get thrown into the fray allowing you to become one with snake as you control his balance amongst other things.

  • Hideo Kojima, the mercurial genius behind the Metal Gear franchise, has been talking about the upcoming evolution of the series, Ground Zeroes. VideoGamer has reported that the Japanese auteur thinks the game may be too controversial for audiences to handle.

"Video games as a medium haven't matured very much at all in the last 25 years," Kojima told journalists. "It's always about killing aliens and zombies. Not that I don't like those kinds of games... they are fun, but I think games have a long way to go before they can mature."

"Over the past 25 year I have tried to work with the Metal Gear series to introduce more mature themes, but really it hasn't gotten there yet. Compared to movies and books it still has a long way to go. That's precisely what I want to try to tackle with Ground Zeroes. Honestly I'm going to be targeting a lot of taboos, a lot of mature themes that really are quite risky. I'm not even sure if I'm going to be able to release the game, and even if I did release the game then maybe it wouldn't sell because it's too much. As a creator I want to take that risk."

What could he be talking about? Ground Zeroes marks a radical departure for the Metal Gear brand, using Kojima's own Fox Engine to power an open world stealth action experience unlike any previous title. It will follow the recently released - and absolutely fantastic - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which also shakes things up, focusing on cyborg ninja Raiden and his ability to slice enemies into tiny chunks.

  • Gamers will be able to try out the much-anticipated Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D on Nintendo 3DS via a free playable demo released this week.

Coming to the Nintendo eShop, the trial version of Konami's stealth action game will allow players to get their first glimpse of Metal Gear Solid in full 3D on Nintendo's handheld, as well as get to grips with its new controls and exclusive features.

A revamped version of the PlayStation 2 classic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the Cold War adventure is a prequel to the Metal Gear saga and sees secret agent Snake sent to a Russian jungle in order to rescue a kidnapped scientist.

On Nintendo 3DS, players can use the Touch Screen to easily view their map and radar or select new items, while gyro controls help Snake keep his balance when navigating hostile terrain.

The game also supports the Circle Pad Pro attachment for more refined controls, as well as allowing players to use real-life photos as camouflage patterns.

Snake Eater is one of the titles included in the recent Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which has proven a huge home console hit this month.

  • Rising Star Games has announced plans to release a diverse array of new titles for the popular Nintendo 3DS this year.

Five new titles are planned for release on the fast-selling handheld system in the next six months alone, with the acclaimed retro rhythm action compilation Bit.Trip Saga coming in the first quarter of 2012.

This will be followed in the second quarter by the authentic fishing simulator Super Black Bass 3D and the puzzle/strategy sequel Cradle of Rome 2.

Also slated for release this year are the dimension-warping platform game Shifting World and Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns, the first 3DS entry in Natsume's iconic farming RPG series.

Martin Defries, managing director at Rising Star Games, said: "We're huge fans of the Nintendo 3DS, the freedom it affords developers and the unmatched fun it brings to the world of gamers."

It is looking set to be a big year for 3DS, with high-profile titles such as Kid Icarus: Uprising, Luigi's Mansion 2, Resident Evil Revelations and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D all coming soon.

A reat game for those who like Metal Gear solid. A bit harder to controle, especially at a few boss fights and guiding Eva threw the first part of the forrest. Overwall, a great game. (4/5)
