Mad Max heading to consoles in 2014

Post-apocalyptic anti-hero Mad Max will be roaring onto consoles next year, publisher Warner Bros has announced.

Players will slip into the dusty leathers of the nomadic tough guy and roam the parched world of The Wasteland in a souped-up muscle car, hunting for salvage that will upgrade your ride. It'll be an open world game, boasting "robust fighting paired with dynamic vehicular combat".

The game is being developed by Avalanche Studios, the Swedish developer best known for the excellent Just Cause 2. If they can bring the same blend of inspired exploration and satisfying action to the Mad Max universe, we should be in for a real treat.

"Over a decade of creating open world experiences has led us to this point," said Avalanche Studios co-founder Christofer Sundberg, "The Wasteland lends itself incredibly well to the high level of player freedom with which Avalanche Studios has become synonymous. This unforgiving environment inspired us to create a gritty and diverse experience where driving, fighting and scavenging are essential for survival."

Mad Max is due in 2014 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360, and PC.
