Lips: Number One Hits (Software Only) Product Details

Released on 23-Oct-2009

Keep the party going with Lips: Number One Hits, the latest addition to the Lips franchise exclusively for Xbox 360. Lips: Number One Hits offers hit songs, including Coldplay's Viva La Vida, Rihanna's Disturbia, MC Hammer's U Can't Touch This, Timbaland's Apologize featuring OneRepublic and Culture Club's Karma Chameleon. All have graced the No. 1 spot on major worldwide charts.

With even more genre-spanning songs releasing regularly on Xbox LIVE, emulating your favorite singer has never been easier. The Xbox 360 wireless microphone included with Lips is compatible with top third-party music titles releasing this fall, cementing Lips as the ultimate spontaneous singing party-starter.

Lips: Number One Hits on box 360 includes:

  • Chart-topping music. Lips: Number One Hits has a robust list of songs on disc, representing No. 1 hits from the major music charts from around the world. New hits include Coldplay's Viva La Vida, Rihanna's Disturbia, MC Hammer's U Can't Touch This, Timbaland's Apologize featuring OneRepublic, and Culture Club's Karma Chameleon to provide the ultimate social singing experience.
  • Interactive wireless motion sensitive microphone. Featuring stylish lights that pulse to the beat of the music, the microphone responds to singers' actions and can be used as a percussion accompaniment. Movers and groovers can trigger Star Stream Power Bonuses by gesturing, shaking or posing with the microphone. With the freedom to rock out like never before, players can live out their singing dreams in style.
  • Constant flow of new music. With songs from Lips and Lips: Number One Hits and the ability to download new tracks regularly from Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the in-game music store, singers can continuously find new music to bring people together and keep the party going. And now with the launch of the new Xbox LIVE Music Channel, it'll be even easier to find, sample and download the latest hits to build your catalog for even more singing fun.
  • Strike a pose. Using the motion sensitive technology in the wireless microphone, players will earn extra points when expressing themselves by matching song-specific gestures. Bonus points can only be won based on your timing with the song.
  • Calling all Xbox LIVE avatars. Initiating avatar integration into the Lips franchise for the very first time, Lips: Number One Hits features players' custom avatars in the in-game menu. In addition, players who sing their hearts out will be rewarded with unique unlockable accessories for their avatars.
  • Great visuals, along with great vocals. Most of the master tracks will feature their original music videos; others will include custom visualizations.
  • Play along. Using the standard Xbox 360 Controller, up to four people will be able to join the fun and choose from a variety of percussion accompaniments to play along with the music in Lips: Number One Hits. By placing control of various tambourines, claps and a cowbell at the fingertips of anyone with a controller, Lips creates a social entertainment experience for friends, co-workers and kids alike.
  • Comma Comma Comma...

With the SingStar series allowing PS3 owning crooners the ability to ruin some classic tunes with their drunken warbling, it's little shock that Microsoft have deemed fit to allow the owners of their console the chance to obliterate some classics too.

Loving would be easy if your colours were like my dreams

Lips: Number One Hits works in exactly the same manner as the last title in the series. On screen will appear the lyrics to some of your favourite tunes, and a pitch level to attempt to stick to as you give the old vocal chords a bit of a workout. Get things right, and you'll bag a load of points to show off with to your chums. Sing like one of those poor misguided fools on the first few X Factor shows and you'll achieve next to nothing.

Sing like one of those poor misguided fools on X Factor and you'll achieve next to nothing.

The included tunes this time around are an eclectic bunch. 40 songs are included, ranging from the sure fire 'first go' for absolutely everyone (Karma Chameleon by Culture Club), via absolute classics (I Get Around by The Beach Boys) through to modern hits like Just Dance by oddball Lady Gaga.

    Red, gold, and green

Also included is a code to unlock a further five tracks, allowing you to chance to choose a particular bunch of five pack that you deem suitable. There's a bit of something for everyone, though rock fans seem to be a little hard done by. Though you can only assume their the kind of folk playing along with another brand of musical gaming genius.

With some great included tracks, and the ability to add in all your own music, Lips is certainly an impressive package.

The major selling point of allowing you to plug in your MP3 player of choice and sing along to your music back catalog remains, though still lacking the lyrics/artwork as expected. Where the included tracks give a lot more meaning to your singing with points and even a basic leveling up system, using your own tracks allows Lips to play the part of a standard karaoke machine. Which is certainly a plus point if you're eager to show off your vocal talents with one specially honed track.

You come and go, you come and go

With some great included tracks, and the ability to add in all your own music, Lips is certainly an impressive package. The wireless microphones included are a joy to use, and chances are they'll get a lot of use as the party season starts to ramp up.

    GAME's Verdict
    plus points
    • Lots of classic tunes.
    • Can sing along to all your own music too.
    • Excellent quality microphones.
    minus points
    • Not every music genre is totally fulfilled.
    • Not much in the way of online functionality.
    • Might just stop you heading out early enough to bag the cheap drinks promotions.

Lips is so much better than singstar, as singstar is a load of rubbish. I'm defo going to the other games of lips, my youngest cousins will enjoy this when they visit. This game deserves a 10/10
