10 April 1912 a?? RMS Titanic is at Southampton waiting to start her maiden voyage to New York. On the quayside people are waiting to say goodbye to friends and family, others in the crowd are passengers who have yet to board, their luggage stands nearby. Hundreds of passengers are crowding the rails of the ship, while more stream up the gangplank. A total of 2,224 passengers and crew will eventually set sail in this the largest ship afloat at the time. Already streamers are floating down, celebrating the imminent departure of this magnificent vessel. Many aboard are the wealthiest people in the world, but in the lower decks there are also hundreds of emigrants, seeking a new life in America.
