James Bond: 007 Legends Features:
- Six Classic Bond Films, One Incredible Game – 007 Legends features an innovative storyline that finds the world’s top Mi6 agent, James Bond, in a critical situation, flashing back to his most intense encounters from six popular Bond films, including this year’s upcoming Daniel Craig film – SKYFALL.
- Be the spy, Live the Adventure – Using sharp investigative and surveillance skills and equipped with unparalleled quick wits, physical abilities, and state-of-the-art gadgets and weaponry, players will take on stealth-based mechanics and dynamic free-form melees in a wide range of secret agent objectives, including assault, espionage, elimination and defence operations like a real covert operative.
- By Air, Land and Space – Each mission in 007 Legends brings with it a fast-paced and exciting vehicle-based gameplay segment, where players can chose between taking complete control and driving like only James Bond knows how to drive, or opt for a guided cruise control-style experience in order to focus on using weapons and gadgets to take down pursuing enemies.
- Take on the Missions Alone or Together – The fan-favorite single-player Mi6 Ops Missions, which debuted in GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, returns in full-force in 007 Legends to challenge players to complete all-out action, stealth and gadget-based missions and compete for the highest online leader board scores. The game also features a robust James Bond multiplayer experience, including local four-player split-screen game modes and 12-player online competitive gameplay with new maps, weapons, characters and gameplay modes – even the ability to play as one of Bond’s allies or nefarious foes.
British developer Eurocom has revealed another of the classic Bond movies that will be reimagined as missions in the upcoming spy shooter, 007 Legends.
This year's movie, Skyfall, and the 1979 Roger Moore cheesefest Moonraker have already been announced, and now we know that On Her Majesty's Secret Service will be another of the six films to be adapted in the game, a sort of first-person shooter mixtape of famous Bond scenarios.
Released in 1969, On Her Majesty's Secret Service was the only Bond movie to star Australian model George Lazenby as the suave super spy and TV slaphead Telly Savalas as scheming supervillain Blofeld.
Most of the film's action takes place in Switzerland, with a ski chase, an avalanche and a mass assault on Blofeld's secret bioweapons base seemingly perfect fodder for a videogame experience. The film also broke from continuity by having Bond get married at the end, although his bride is promptly assassinated, leaving our hero all sad and angry.
Eurocom is developing the game for Activision, after doing good work on the Wii remake of Goldeneye and the N64 version of The World Is Not Enough.
007 Legends will be out on October 19th for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Familiar faces return for 007 Legends - but no Queen cameo
Her Majesty may have become the world's oldest Bond Girl last week when she was escorted to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games by Daniel Craig's suave secret agent, but the Queen sadly won't be joining him for 007 Legends, the latest Bond game, despite her surprising aptitude for skydiving.
A greatest hits shooter, the game offers missions based on six classic Bond encounters from throughout his movie career, reinterpreting them into one over-arcing storyline, building up to sections based on the new movie, Skyfall.
Daniel Craig, of course, will voice James Bond as well as lending his likeness to the proceedings. He'll be joined by Skyfall co-stars Naomie Harris (Pirates of the Caribbean, 28 Days Later) and Rory "Son of Roy" Kinnear (Quantum of Solace).
Some classic Bond villains will also reprise their roles. The mission based around 1979's Moonraker will find Craig replacing debonair Roger Moore, but both Michael Lonsdale and Richard Kiel have stepped into the recording booth to voice Hugo Drax and metal-mouthed henchman Jaws respectively.
Moonraker and On Her Majesty's Secret Service are just two of the classic 007 stories being made over for the game. Publisher Activision is keeping the titles of the other stories in a manilla folder stamped TOP SECRET for now.
007 Legends enters active service on October 16th for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
After teaming up with Her Majesty the Queen in one of the highlights of the Olympic Opening Ceremony, James Bond will be joined by more guests in the forthcoming 007 Legends for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Daniel Craig will be returning to perform as Bond, and Skyfall co-stars Rory Kinnear (MI5 bigwig Bill Tanner) and Naomie Harris (and unnamed Bond Girl, rumoured to be Miss Moneypenny) will also be reprising their characters in the sequences based on this year's new movie.
But with a title like 007 Legends, you'd expect some, well, legends to be in the game too. Well, you're in luck - the levels based on Moonraker will see Hugo Drax and Jaws reappear, voiced by original actors Michael Lonsdale and Richard Kiel respectively. Craig will also be Bond here, standing in for Roger Moore as the Moonraker missions make up part of a larger, single story.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the only other film we know to be included so far, but expect more details to be released as we approach the October 19th release date.
They may not have the highest profile in the games industry, but the annual awards handed out by the Writers Guild of America still carries a lot of weight. That's because the WGA is union that represents scriptwriters across all media, including movies and television.
That comes with its own restrictions though. To be nominated, a writer must be a WGA member which counts out a lot of videogame scripters who have only ever worked in games. Similarly, the publisher must officially put their game forward for an award, meaning many games aren't even considered.
The 2013 line up for the Outstanding Achievement in Videogame Writing award is still pretty good time capsule of where big blockbuster gaming is getting words right though. Halo 4 and Assassin's Creed III are both up for the prize, as is the PlayStation Vita exclusive spin-off Assassin's Creed Liberation. The PS Vita gets another nod in the shape of Uncharted: Golden Abyss, which continued the spritely storytelling of the main series in fine style.
Also up for the award are 007 Legends, for which GoldenEye screenwriter Bruce Feirstein combined multiple Bond movie storylines into one game, and Disney Epic Mickey 2, which had a story helmed by comics scribe Marv Wolfman.
The WGA ceremony takes place on February 17th.
