Payment & Verification

3D Secure/Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode

Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode are a new form of internet shopping security where the cardholder has to enter a special password in order to proceed with their payment. It is a free service that increases the safety and security of online shopping on both GAME.co.uk and many other websites.

How do I sign-up?

If your bank participates in the scheme, you can simply visit their site to sign-up. Alternatively, the next time you shop with GAME, your bank may ask you to sign-up as part of the payment process.

You will be asked to enter three pieces of data and your email address. You will then be asked to create a password. Like all passwords, it is essential that you keep it secret. In addition to a password, you may be asked to create a secret question and an appropriate question response in case you forget your password.

Sounds like too much hassle; what if I don't want to participate?
If you are unsure about your scheme, or you simply don't want to sign-up, you should contact your bank for more details. However, it is worth bearing in mind that this service is for your benefit as the bank are making sure that nobody can use your card without your password.

I'm paying with my bank card; will I still be asked to enter a password?
Verified by Visa covers both Visa credit cards and Visa Delta debit cards.
MasterCard SecureCode covers both MasterCard credit cards and Maestro debit cards.

My bank isn't participating; is it still safe to order on GAME?
The introduction of cardholder verification does not affect the security of your shopping experience with GAME. We have made no changes to our site other than to allow banks to request cardholder's verify themselves where appropriate. Even if you are not asked to sign-up and enter a special password, your details are still as safe and secure as they have ever been.

What happens if someone else gets hold of my card?
Once you have signed up to Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode, if someone steals your card they will not be able to buy something from the internet without your special password; this is making shopping safer for you.

3D Secure Password FAQs

If you are having a problem completing your order because of an issue with your password you may find the answer below. If you still experience problems please contact your issuing bank.

Is the password I enter the same as my card's PIN?
No, it's a password that you create when you sign-up to the scheme associated with your card type.

Is the password I enter the same as my GAME account password?
No, it's a password that you create when you sign-up to the scheme associated with your card type.

Can I use my PIN as I don't really want another password?
Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode passwords are what is known as 'strong passwords', requiring a combination of letters and numbers. Because your card's PIN is only made up of numbers it is not possible to use this as your special password.

Will I be able to pay without entering this special password?
Not all banks are currently participating in the schemes, but because it will soon be mandatory for shopping online, it is only a matter of time before it is standard across all banks and internet stores and it will be necessary to use your password.

I think I've already signed up but I've forgotten my password. What should I do?
You have two options. Firstly, you can contact your bank who will be able to assist you with all matters relating to your cardholder verification scheme. Alternatively, next time you shop with GAME and you fail to enter the correct password you may be prompted to enter your 'question response'. If you do not remember your 'question response', or you have not created a secret question, you can click a 'forgotten password' link to obtain a new password.

Will GAME save my special password so I don't have to enter it every time I shop?
No, GAME have no knowledge of your special password and it will not be saved in any of our systems. When you participate in the cardholder verification step within our checkout you will be communicating directly with the bank and none of the information exchanged will be visible to GAME.

GAME now accepts PayPal as a valid method of paying for products purchased online - but what exactly is PayPal and why would you want to use it? Let's walk you through it...

What it is?
PayPal is an online account that is mostly used to purchase items online without the hassle of having to enter your card details, address, security code, etc. Each and every time you want to buy something you just hit the 'Pay with PayPal' button, log in to your PayPal account and let PayPal do the rest for you. Simple!

PayPal can also be used to transfer money to other people's personal accounts without the bother of logging into your online banking to do a balance transfer, so it's a great way to pay your rent, pay your mates back for cab fair, or give a cash birthday gift, for example.

How it's used?
A little bit like an Xbox LIVE/PlayStation Network account, you can deposit cash into your PayPal account and use it to make purchases, or withdraw these funds to the bank account linked to your personal PayPal account. (Other people can also make deposits into your PayPal account, which is why PayPal is so popular on eBay.)

Unlike Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network accounts though, if your PayPal account is empty then you can still pay using PayPal, which will take the funds directly from your linked bank account/card(s) instead.

Paying with PayPal on GAME.co.uk
Buying from GAME.co.uk using PayPal is an absolutely cinch: Just add items to your basket and hit the Checkout button as per usual, then select PayPal as your payment option and you'll be taken to a screen where you input your PayPal login details.
