Dragon's Dogma Product Details

Released on 25-May-2012

Dragon’s Dogma is an exciting new franchise which redefines the action genre from the team that produced some of Capcom’s greatest action games. Set in a huge open world, Dragon’s Dogma offers an exhilarating and fulfilling action combat game with the freedom to explore and interact in a rich, living and breathing world. Alongside your party of three, you set out to track down and destroy a mysterious dragon.

Your teammates fight independently of you, demonstrating prowess and ability they have developed based on traits learned over time from you and your actions. Dragon’s Dogma offers a near endless opportunity to help develop partner characters to fight alongside you. With an epic story and incredible action, Dragon’s Dogma is set to be one of Capcom’s newest hit franchises.

  • Highly Stylized Action Combat – The creators of this game were responsible for the action hits – Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 4.
  • Fight With Ability – The soul of combat comes down to how the game is played, where you strike the enemy, and how you react to their attacks.
  • Accessible Depth – Bringing an unprecedented level of depth to the action genre, every decision has an effect on gameplay in an intuitive way that does not require micromanagement. The weight of your weapon, the material of your armor – even the length of your legs – plays a role in how you fight your battles, but does not interrupt the flow of the action.
  • Epic Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma is built from the ground up as an action experience for consoles with a continuous, epic storyline that stands alone in style, scope and substance.
  • Open World – Utilizing Capcom’s proprietary MT Framework engine and the groundbreaking graphical styles and lighting effects used in Resident Evil® 5 and Lost Planet® 2, Dragon’s Dogma expands the environment to create a vast, richly detailed world, ripe for exploration.
  • A Rich Population – In addition to interacting with hundreds of fully voiced NPCs, you’ll be able to fight a large variety of creatures, from goblins to griffins and dragons. Each enemy requires a different strategy and provides a unique experience.
  • Top Japanese developer Capcom has promised gamers that its forthcoming fantasy epic Dragon's Dogma will be unlike anything the company has ever produced before.

Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the game's producer, told the official PlayStation Blog that efforts are being expended to create a sense of total freedom in the new title, which is the first open-world RPG Capcom has made.

The game will feature around 400 different characters that players will encounter, each with a distinct personality and backstory, allowing players to fully immerse themselves in a world of dragons, myths and choices with consequences.

However, Mr Kobayashi noted that Capcom will also be aiming to bring its action game expertise from titles such as Devil May Cry and Resident Evil 4 to the table.

'Dragon's Dogma will be a totally new experience in many respects,' he promised.

The game is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 and is due for release in 2012.

  • Capcom has announced that its brand new open-world action game Dragon's Dogma will be hitting stores worldwide in May 2012.

The new title for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is being developed by the same team behind the acclaimed Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 4, allowing players to explore a rich fantasy world.

As they embark on their quest to destroy a powerful dragon, players will interact with hundreds of fully voiced characters, battle mystical creatures and learn to take advantage of an in-depth battle system.

Uniquely, the game allows players to recruit up to three intelligent AI partners called Pawns, who can be trained up with specific skills and traded with other fans online.

Capcom has also revealed that people who buy Dragon's Dogma will gain exclusive first access to the demo version of the eagerly awaited Resident Evil 6.

All copies of the game come with a download token for the demo, which can be redeemed in July 2012 for Xbox 360 and in September for PlayStation 3.

  • Capcom has scared up a few new titbits of information pertaining to Resident Evil 6, the newest instalment in its iconic survival horror series.

Coinciding with the launch of a fresh trailer for the game, the developer revealed that the new story takes place in 2013, several years after Resident Evil 5, in the midst of a massive global zombie outbreak.

Dotted among the shambling hordes, players will encounter a new breed of enemy called the J'avo, powerful regenerating creatures that are capable of understanding speech and coordinating their attacks.

However, the game's protagonists will have a few new tricks of their own, as Resident Evil 6 will allow players to move and shoot at the same time, as well as execute rolls and hide behind cover.

Capcom will unleash its latest bloodcurdling adventure in November 2012 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a PC version to follow later.

Fans who pick up Capcom's forthcoming fantasy RPG Dragon's Dogma will be able to gain early access to a demo of Resi 6 this summer.

  • Capcom has provided details of the innovative new AI partner system for its upcoming fantasy epic Dragon's Dogma for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Kento Kinoshita, one of the key designers on the forthcoming release, has explained to the official Capcom Unity blog the ins and outs of the pawn system, which lets players create their own AI companions for their long journey.

Gamers will tailor their pawn's appearance, job, skills and weapons, but from this point onwards the pawn will learn traits organically, observing the player's own tactics and play style so they can mirror it.

As the adventure progresses, pawns will learn different characteristics, dialogue options and battle approaches, becoming "comprised of each player's unique feelings", according to Mr Kinoshita.

Once traded, pawns can then be traded between different players' games, filling the world of Dragon's Dogma with all sorts of unusual characters.

Developed by the team behind Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 4, Dragon's Dogma launches in May 2012 and will also provide early access to the upcoming demo of the eagerly awaited Resident Evil 6.

  • RPG goes East in Dragon's Dogma on PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360

    The Japanese Skyrim?

Dragon's Dogma is a high-fantasy role-playing game from Capcom, the developer and publisher of titles such as Monster Hunter and Street Fighter. Created by the combat designer of Devil May Cry 3, the game is pitched as a Japanese take on the western RPG genre.

At first glance it may come across as an amateurish approximation of beloved western RPGs such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Dragon Age, but upon closer inspection it reveals itself to be one of the freshest and most interesting titles in the genre in recent memory.

Dragon's Dogma is structured much like many other open-world RPGs; its open world setting of Gransys is filled with towns, cities, shops, dungeons, caves and forests to explore, and populated by non-playable characters happy to dole out quests for players to complete.

Death and danger abound in Dragon's Dogma at GAME

    Dangerous Times

Perhaps the most exciting part of Dragon's Dogma is its prevailing sense of danger, something which has been lost in video games of late. Its world is absolutely huge and death lurks around every corner. The sense of danger intensifies at night, when it becomes impossible to see more than a few feet ahead of you without the aid of a lantern. If you're unlucky enough to wander off the beaten path you might find yourself faced with a pack of wolves, and in the early stages of the game when you're character isn't well developed this is likely to result in certain death.

The game opens with a dragon laying siege to Gransys. In addition to burning and scarring the province, the mythical beast brings with it a horde of monsters to help trash the lands. Playing as the Arisen - a title given to anyone whose hearts were stolen by a dragon, and survived - it's your job to slay all the demons and eventually the dragon.

Quests mainly revolve around fetching items for non-playable characters, escort missions and battling through dungeons. While this can become a little repetitive at times, the game's satisfying third-person combat has a realistic, weighty feel to it and helps keep things exciting throughout. You can opt to play the range game and attack from afar with a bow and arrow as a Strider, choose to get up close and personal as a Fighter, or adopt the Mage character class if you favour magic powered attacks.

Stider, Mage, Fighter - what class will you choose in Dragon's Dogma on PS3 and Xbox 360

    Helping Hands

To complete your goals you're given access to an army of Pawns, computer controller teammates who can be hired as mercenaries to do battle alongside you. Two can be recruited at any one time to fit your specific needs, and as your character grows in strength you'll need to change up your roster of Pawns to ensure you're in the best shape for questing.

Pawns are incredibly useful as they offer lots of battle strategies and other valuable information. Play Dragon's Dogma with an online connection enabled and you can even recruit Pawns from other real people's games. If the player in question is at a more advanced stage of the adventure than you are, their Pawn may already have a good knowledge of areas, creatures and quests you've yet to encounter, making them more useful.

Dragon's Dogma is a quirky and challenging game. Suffering from a drab colour palette it's not the prettiest RPG, and it can also be punishingly difficult at times, but the core hacking and slashing combat alone makes it worth playing for fans of the genre, while the excellent Pawn system ensures it's something special.

    GAME's Verdict

    The Good:

    • Great Pawn system
    • Satisfyingly punchy combat
    • Exciting sense of danger

    The Bad:

    • Drab colour palette
    • Can be punishingly difficult at times
    • Direct online co-op would have been nice

  • Quirky hardcore RPG Dragon's Dogma won't be a one-off, publisher Capcom has confirmed, as it announced the game has shifted over a million copies worldwide.

While trumpeting this news to investors, the legendary Japanese publisher confirmed it intends to "develop this entirely new brand into a major franchise". The game is the most successful new title launch in Japan for over a decade.

Dragon's Dogma, released last month, is an ambitious role-playing game from the people who made Resident Evil 4. It boasts a massive openworld environment, and uses an innovative sidekick sharing system that allows players to hire party members from other players online, as well as renting out their own characters in return for in-game bonuses. These "pawns" can also learn about quests and monsters as you play, and will suggest tactics to the player accordingly.

Dragon's Dogma is out now for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

  • Dragon's Dogma Creator Wants Sequel

Hideaki Itsuno, creator of hit action role-playing game Dragon's Dogma, has hinted that he'd like to create a sequel.

Speaking to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Itsuno expressed his desire to create a follow-up, and that he has plenty of ideas for what the second game could include. Apparently, Dragon's Dogma only included around two-thirds of the ideas he had in mind for the game, and there's still lots he'd like to do with those ideas.

He also said that a sequel would only be possible with support of the fans, but it's safe to say that with the critical and commercial success of the game, this shouldn't be a problem!

Dragon's Dogma is available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 now.

  • Capcom has announced it will publish Remember Me, an exciting looking science fiction action adventure from French developer Dontnod.

The game is set in Paris in the year 2084. Technology known as Sensation Engines, or Sen-Sen, allows people to record and share their experiences, but this leads to a black market trade in illegal memories. The game's heroine, Nilin, is naturally gifted at using the technology and uses her gifts to take down the corporation responsible.

In a demo shown at the German Gamescom fair yesterday, we see Nilin infiltrating a building by using her powers to hack doors and disorientate guards, with some nifty hand-to-hand combat as back up. More interesting still is another scene in which she hacks the memories of another character, to make him believe he tried to murder his wife. Players will be able to replay, rewind and reformat these memories to create the perfect fake memories with which to distract and manipulate other characters.

The team behind Remember Me is drawn from former employees of Ubisoft, EA and Criterion. The announcement comes as part of what is turning out to be a very successful year for Capcom. Resident Evil 6, Lost Planet 3 and the rebooted Devil May Cry are all on the horizon, along with a sequel to the excellent RPG, Dragon's Dogma.

  • Emboldened by the critical acclaim and sales success of ambitious openworld role-player Dragon's Dogma, Capcom has announced plans to support the title with a major expansion in 2013 and free enhancements.

Dark Arisen is the name of the expansion, which will arrive next year for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. "Into the depths of an unknown darkness," proclaims a short but spooky teaser trailer, "An epitaph speaks of another's demise." There are skeletons and a bony dragon, and lots of fighting, while screenshots show gloomy caverns and an eerie moonlit fort.

In the more immediate future, Capcom has also revealed it plans to add some freebies to the existing game. A new Hard mode will be available to download, for those whose battle-tempered resolve has grown too strong for the original difficulty settings, while a Speedrun option will provide cool perks for players who beat the game under various time limits.

If you haven't given Dragon's Dogma a try, you're missing a treat. It's from the creator of Resident Evil 4 and mashes up the epic scope of Skyrim with the gritty tactical combat of Capcom's own Monster Hunter saga. Add in a rather clever "pawn" system that lets you train up NPC companions and then rent them to other players, and you've got one of 2012's best titles - and it sounds like it's only going to get better.

Dragon's Dogma is out now for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Don't truly recommend it
The game is general is good but there are a few deffects that i don't realy like. First of all, the world is soooo tiny, after a few optional misions you will see the whole world of this game and sincerely is reaaally small. The second is that the enemies always appear in the same spot, they alternate between night and day, however always in the same spot. After a few tries it won't be difficult to kill them. The third is the fast travel, it is solved with an item but they are quite expensive and you don't really want to waste SO MUCH money. On the other hand the battles are just awesome, you can climb all the way up to the enemy and stab it like crazy in the head, really really good work on the battle part.
