Assassin's Creed: Unity just got curiouser and curiouser, as Ubisoft released a new trailer which shows that while the bulk of the game takes place during the French Revolution, you may be visiting other time periods as well.
In the clip, we see main character Arno running across the rooftops of Paris in the 18th century. A female voice warns him that the French Revolution simulation is collapsing, and that there's no guarantee what time period he'll end up in. As the world fragments around him, Arno leaps into the void and wakes up in a train tunnel where he narrowly escapes getting splattered by a speeding locomotive.
We then see him scaling the Eiffel Tower as air raid sirens sound. At the top, he takes control of a machine gun nest and begins shooting at Luftwaffe fighters. Yes, he's in World War 2.
What does it mean? Will there be other time slips in the game allowing us to visit Paris during other periods? We don't know, but we do know that a large part of the story this time around is that Abstergo, the corporate villain of the previous Assassin's Creed games, is using the Animus technology as an entertainment product.
Assassin's Creed: Unity is out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on 13 November. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners get Assassin's Creed: Rogue on the same day.
