Released on 02-Dec-2011

Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy explodes onto Nintendo 3DS

Featuring more in-your-face action than ever, players will have their hands full with visuals that leap out of the screen, new aircraft to command, and touch screen targeting for precision decimation of enemies.

Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy completely reinvents aerial combat exclusively for Nintendo 3DS, with explosive new 3D visuals and original intense action gameplay. The redesigned controls let players use the touch-based lock-on system for precise targeting in the heat of battle. Budding aces will have a chance to try their hand behind the controls of a whole range of real-world aircraft, including some never before seen in an Ace Combat game.

  • Namco Bandai's acclaimed arcade flight sim Ace Combat: Assault Horizon will finally take flight on the PC, the publisher has confirmed. The game will land in UK shops early next year.

Counting arcade cabinets and mobile games, Assault Horizon is the sixteenth entry in the long running series and marks an attempt to please both hardcore shooter fans as well as newcomers to the franchise. With a globetrotting storyline written by best-selling military author Jim DeFelice, the game has been described as an aerial Call of Duty

The console version, released last year, certainly tickled the critics. "Ace Combat Assault Horizon walks that dangerous line many modern franchises are attempting these days: make an old formula more accessible and streamlined without alienating the hardcore fans" said Games Radar's 90% review. Games Master UK gave it 87%, hailing the blend of "gritty realism with an accessible arcade feel". Games TM offered an 8/10 score, praising the "undeniable thrill" that the focus on close quarters dogfighting offered. "A triumphant mix of masculinity and pastiche," read the review, "An excitable exercise in action gaming that moves the genre forward into exciting new territory."

And now, finally, PC players will be able to see what the fuss was about. Ready the landing strip.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is out now for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The PC version is due in early 2013.

Classic Ace Combat at its best
Ace Combat AH Legacy is definitely built for fans of the series and it shows this by taking the story back to its fictional setting. If you were a bit let down by Assault Horizon don't be put off since this game shares its title it is certainly nothing like its 'big brother' on the PS3 and Xbox 360. In this iteration you return to the roots of Ace Combat and rejoin Scarface squadron from Air Combat and Ace Combat 2 as it fights the Rebel Force's of Usean Continent during the infamous Coup d'etat. A new gameplay mechanic called Manoeuvres returns instead of Dogfight Mode this time which is truly balanced and doesn't intrude too much into the classical style mission layout. Any fan of previous Ace Combat games should definitely give this version a try.
